  1. The Orphan TrainA choose your own adventure story By the Superstars

  2. In Dallas, Texas on May 4, 1939 you were standing in a soup line. There were five people in front of you. When you got to the front of the line, the people rang a bell and said, “No more food.” You look at your older sister with big eyes. You hear more ringing from the last two soup lines telling you all food was gone. You and your older sister turn around and drop your heads sadly. A-Go live with your Aunt Suzie. B-Get on the orphan train.

  3. You chose to go live with Aunt Suzie. When you got there you found yourselves on a small beat up farm. When you got closer you realized that it was worse than you thought. You got on the porch and knocked on the door. An old woman opened the door and croaked,”Who is it?” After replying your name, she pulled you into the house. You asked, “Are you my Aunt Suzie?” The old woman did not answer. Instead she pushed you into a dark room. A-Go back to Dallas to get on an orphan train with your sister B-Stay with Aunt Suzie

  4. You and your sister decided to get on the orphan train. When you got on the orphan train, you went up to the conductor and asked him where to sit. The man said, “Row five.” You went back five rows and sat down. You asked your sister, “What are we going to do when we get there?” She hadn’t replied. Nine or ten other children had gotten on and you were on your way. When you were there in Sacramento, California, you saw many couples staring at the children getting off the train. Two couples walked up to you and the conductor said, ”Looks like you’ve got to pick.” A-Go with Mr. Poe and Mrs. Poe B-Go with Mr. Chaperel and Mrs. Chaperel

  5. You and your sister got on the orphan train. You and your sister crammed onto the train and sat by some weird people. They asked you where you were going and decided to take you and your sister in. You became a happy family. During the Great Depression people didn’t have money or families so they had to get on an orphan train.

  6. You and your sister decided to live with your Aunt Suzie. Period. She had given you a whole page of rules. You wished you would have gotten on the orphan train. Her rules were practically stupid. You and your sister hated it. But in the end, you thought it was okay living there. During the Great Depression people had very hard choices and often had to live with relatives.

  7. You chose to sit with Mr. Poe and Mrs. Poe. They started talking and you had gotten into a deep discussion with them. They had said, “You can be part of our family if you want to.” You and your sister said yes. During the Great Depression lots of children didn’t have families. They had to get on orphan trains.

  8. You and your sister sat with Mr. Chaperel and Mrs. Chaperel. They wouldn’t talk. They were mean when they did. You wished you would have sat with the other couple. You stayed with them, but did not have a happy life. Sometimes in the Great Depression people had made wrong choices and had to live with the consequences.
