  2. In 1950 the White-tailed Deer was virtually extinct in Ohio In 1951 deer hunting season was closed in Ohio. In 1952 only 27 counties allowed hunting and only 450 deer kills were recorded.

  3. In the 1950’s Ohio re-introduced the White-tailed Deer from populations out of state

  4. By 2007 the population was estimated at over 500,000

  5. The White-tailed Deer is a model of success for wildlife management

  6. In 2007 hunters took 232,854 deer These hunters provide income to the state in tourism and licensing fees Even with the staggering number of deer harvested the population continues to grow

  7. Every success has a price

  8. The Ohio Highway Patrol reports 26,304 deer collisions in 2007 These collisions resulted in 859 human injuries Of the collisions 8 were fatal to humans. Fatalities for the deer are significantly higher.
