ATHLETIC PARENT MEETING 2014. GVAC athletic conference. Due to NEISD building opening a new middle school, we have had to find a new conference to play in for the future. Next year we will be in the Guadelupe Valley Athletic Conference.

GVAC athletic conference • Due to NEISD building opening a new middle school, we have had to find a new conference to play in for the future. • Next year we will be in the Guadelupe Valley Athletic Conference. • The 11 schools will be: Alamo Heights JS, Boerne ISD (Boerne-South MS), Comal Schools (Canyon MS, Church Hill MS, Smithson Valley, MS, Spring Branch MS), Kerrville ISD (Peterson MS), New Braunfels ISD (New Braunfels MS, Oak Run MS), Schertz-Cibolo-Universay City ISD (Corbett MS, Dobie MS).

  5. ATHLETIC INFORMATION • Please sign up for the newsletter by sending an email to: • mbond@ahisd.net --- boys • mboyer@ahisd.net ----girls The newsletter will include reminders for athletics, schedules, paperwork, request for volunteers, etc.

  6. PAPERWORK NEEDED To participate in UIL sports you will need the following: • Physical from a Doctor on the correct UIL form • Due: June 5th, 2014 • AHISD 24 hour code of leadership form. • UIL acknowledgment of rules • UIL Concussion acknowledgement form • UIL Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness form • AHJS Athletics Guidelines and information. • Parents and students have read the AHISD Athletic Standards.

  7. Eligibility • First 6 weeks will be a grade check. • Report card every 9 weeks. • Progress report every 3 weeks to regain eligibility. • What is passing? 70 or above in all classes. • Waiver for advanced classes (GT or HS credit). • Can only use once a year for one class.

SPORTS SCHEDULES • FOOTBALL- • Begins: August 25th , first game Sept. 11th • Games on Thursdays • Ends: November 8th • Volleyball- • Begins: August 25th, first game Sept. 4th • Games on Thursdays (one Saturday) • Ends: November 6th • Basketball- • Begins: November 17th • Games on Monday (boys), Thursdays (girls)+ (one Saturday) • first game- boys Dec. 1st, Girls Dec. 4th • Ends: February 21st • Tennis-TBA • Track- March 4th-April 18th schedule TBA • All schedules will be posted on AHJS Athletics web page, coaches web pages &sent out through newsletter emails.

  9. TEAM LEVELS AND PHILOSOPHY To develop individual and team skills to a competitive level in preparation for participation in high school sports. Individual skill level, attitude, attendance, team dynamics and coachability will determine playing time during games. • Football, Volleyball & Basketball will have 3 teams for each grade level. • A team- Blue • B team – Gold • C team- White The three levels of teams are designed to allow each athlete to compete at the appropriate level for their current skills and knowledge as determined by the coaching staff. • Track & Tennis will have one team for each grade level.

What is Off- Season? • When you are not currently on a “team” you will do workouts during athletic period. • This group is titled “Off-season”. • Workouts will include but are not limited to: • Weight lifting • Running or conditioning workouts • Agility training • Speed and power training • Core strength training • Instructions on injury prevention and stretching • Preparation for next season/sport

  11. PARENT VOLUNTEERS • EACH TEAM WILL NEED TEAM PARENTS FOR THE FOLLOWING: • PLAN ANY SPECIAL EVENTS. • ORGANIZE CONCESSION STAND WORKERS. • ORGANIZE AND PREPARE TEAM SNACKS FOR GAME DAYS. If you are interested in volunteering please send an email to Coach Bond or Coach Michelle Boyer.

COMMUNICATION REQUEST • When questions or concerns arise: • Encourage your child to speak with the coach directly. • Contact the appropriate coach as soon as possible • Email is the best way during the school day. • Request a short meeting with the coach. • Please avoid before and after games to avoid interruption with coaching duties and supervision. • If you are not able to get a response or resolution please contact Coach Bond or Boyer next.

  14. PREP FOR NEXT YEAR • PHYSICALS DUE: before end of school current year. • See Summer date information flyer • Includes the following information • FB/VB PARENT MEETING • FB PAD • GIRLS ATH. LOCKERS handout times • FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL INFO.: • All VB after school first day until 5:30 pm (7&8)

  15. AHJS Picnic & Scrimmage Fund Raiser Tuesday, Sept. 9th. At AHJS Football and Volleyball teams will scrimmage. Picnic after scrimmages. Donations: Please contact- Joy Fuhrmann-210-771-9735 Melany Andersen-210-216-4150 We need two 7th grade parents to help also.
