  2. NaCl • Sodium Chloride dissolve in water to form neutral Sodium Chloride solution • NaCl(s) + H2O (aq) NaCl (aq) • Approximate ph of saturated solution formed=7 (neutral)

  3. MgCl2 • Magnesium chloride dissolve in water to form slightly acidic solution • MgCl2 + 2H20 Mg(OH)2 + 2HCl • MgCl2 Mg2+ + 2Cl- • 2H2O 2OH- + 2H+ • Approximate ph of saturated solution=6.5(slightly acidic solution)

  4. AlCl3 • Anhydrous aluminium chloride undergoes rapid hydrolysis with small amount of water to form aluminium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid • AlCl3(s) + 3H2O(l) Al(OH)3(s) + 3HCl • Approximate ph of saturated solution= 2(HCl)

  5. SiCl4 • Silicon Tetrachloride reacts vigorously with water to form a strongly acidic solution of hydrochloric acid • SiCl4(l) + 4H20(l) Si(OH)4(s) + 4HCl(g) • Approximate ph of saturated solution=1(HCL)

  6. PCl3 • PCl3 hydrolysed in ice cold water to form Phosphorus(iii) (phosphorus) acid • PCl3(l) + 3H20(l) H3PO3(aq) + 3HCl(aq) • Approximate ph of saturated solution=1(HCl)

  7. PCl5 • Phosphorus (v) chloride fumes in moist air and reacts violently with water to form phosphoric(v) acid • PCl5(s) + 4H20(l) H3PO4(aq) + 5HCl(aq) • Approximate ph of saturated solution= 1(hydrochloric acid)

  8. Cl2 • Chlorine is moderately soluble in water forming a yellowish green solution called ‘chlorine water’ • Some chlorine reacts with water to form a mixture of hydrochloric and chloric(I) acids • Cl2(g) + H2O(l) HCl(aq) + HClO(aq) • Approximate PH of saturated solution=2
