Geographic Coverage Bamyan Province Bamyan and Yawkalang Districts Hirat Province Injil, Guzara, Karukh, Zanda Jan, Kushk, Kohsan and Ghoryan Districts Ghor Province Lal wa Sarjangal, Chaghacharan, Dulaina, and Dawlatyar Districts
Program Background • CRS helps people in the developing world break the cycle of poverty through community-based, sustainable development initiatives. • CRS has been working in Afghanistan since 1998. • Key areas of our work include agriculture and enterprise and women's livelihoods
Agriculture Development Management 1-Introduing of improved wheat seed. • Produce high quality seeds • Introduce new improved agro-techniques • Cleaning and storing of seed for using of future • To keep purity of seed • To introduce resistance varieties against diseases
Agriculture Development Management 2-Potato • Aims to improve potato seed production and storage • Uses simple adaptation to existing storage practices • Targets 1,680 farmers from 12 villages in Chaghacharan and Lal districts of Ghor Province
Livestock Development • 3-Honey bee • Introducing of honey bee among Herat people. • Increasing of family income • Increase of yield in most of trees and vegetation by pollination of honey bee • Production of wax
Livestock Development • 4-NRM work • Establishing watershed committees for monitoring the NRM related duties for each village. • Preparing pasture management for avoiding over grazing in the pastures. • Focusing to increase biodiversity in treated area and encourage people to protect the area for 5 years. • Preparing pasture management for avoiding over grazing in the pastures. • Implementing some Soil and Water Conservation’s measures.
Women in Agriculture • 5-Poultry • Introducing new chicken golden race. • Keeping and raising of poultry. • Introducing of coops for farmers. • Breeding of new race of poultry. • Women team leader trained on vaccination and De- warming. • Introducing of concentrate feed for poultry.
Women in Agriculture • 6-Greenhouses • Fresh vegetable, ornamental, and flower value-chains • Use an innovative Shura-managed revolving fund – farmers pay 100% of cost over 2 years • Reduced cost/ beneficiary from $495 to $285
