Exploring Renewable and Nonrenewable Resources: A Comparative Study Across the Americas

In this engaging project, students will investigate renewable and nonrenewable energy resources, focusing on comparisons between green efforts in the United States and Latin America. Working in groups of four, they will research energy sources, utilizing search engines and their SharePoint page to compile findings. Students will apply higher-level thinking skills to foster discussions and complete a presentation that includes a video/photo journal. Progress will be assessed both formatively and summatively, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of energy resources and cultural perspectives.

  1. Intel Teach Program Presentation My Intel Folder

  2. My Intel Folder Unit summary Students will investigate renewable and nonrenewable resources. They will complete a project which compares and contrasts green efforts in the United States as well as in Latin America. They will present a project presentation to include a video/photo journal. Students progress will continually be assessed on a formative and summative basis.

  3. Objectives Students will work in groups of four to research and compile a presentation on renewable and nonrenewable energy sources in one of the chosen Latin American countries. They will use search engines and our share point page to upload and share their research with the group. Students will use higher level thinking skills to create a discussion on my sharepoint for questions they want discussed.

  4. Student Sample Targeted Standards ES.7 The student will investigate and understand the differences between renewable and nonrenewable resources. MFLI. 7 The student will develop an awareness of perspectives, practices, and products of the cultures where the target language is spoken. MFLI.9 The student will connect information about the target language and culture(s) with concepts studied in other subject areas.

  6. ASSESSMENTS Student Needs Assessment Will gauge what students know (what needs to be taught before the unit) What they are interested in and how that can be used to motivate them forward in the project Will give them a starting point as far as sources for web research
