  3. Workshop Highlights: Incident Mgmt Joint US-Canadian Command Post Model Advantages: • Better communications between countries • More efficient use of response assets and expertise • Coordinated public outreach (single voice) • More efficient coordination with the RP/spiller

Workshop Highlights: Incident Mgmt Joint US-Canadian Command Post Model Challenges: • Potential for political unease for non-resident country • Need for larger and more complex logistics/ICP • Difficulties in meshing different incident mgmt sys • Complexities in international equipment transport

  5. Workshop Highlights: Comms Communications Recommendations • Standardize communications plans • Improve understanding of cellular capabilities and deficiencies • Investigate info management tools to enhance voice, data, video transfer to share “Common Operating Picture”

  7. St Andrews Boom Deployment • Initial equipment challenges in deploying new boom • Great US/Canadian partnership • Boom would be effective in modest tidal currents

  8. Eastport Boom Deployment • Boom vane proved effective in fast currents • ME DEP/USCG Partnership

Lessons Learned (Command Post) • Info mgmt and comms needs at a major incident are substantial – need rapid IT support • Differences in the Canadian OSC's jurisdiction and incident management systems pose obstacles to forging effective joint ICP and require large facility. • Consider option of separate ICPs with joint JIC, strong liaison and joint mtgs. • Joint Environmental Section worked well

  10. Lessons Learned (Field ops) • With detailed prep and close cooperation, cross border transport went smoothly • On water deployment provided critical opportunity to work out inevitable kinks. • Field ops raised awareness of joint resources available
