  5. VEMD In “Start-Up” Mode T4, NG, and Torque: digital value and analog scale The VEMD switches automatically to the First Limitation Indicator at ~ 60% NG.   6. VEMD In “Flight” Operational Mode FLI analog scale, plus digital values of NG, T4, & Torque parameters. The upper screen shows all the engine limitation data on the First Limitation Indicator. During start-up, the FLI is automatically displayed at ~ 60% NG. “SCROLL” pushbutton for selecting display - FLI or 3-Scale display. Note: Collective Lever also has a “SCROLL” button. The three primary engine parameters (NG, T4, & TRQ) are displayed in an easy-to-use synthetic form for monitoring engine power: 0 = zero power 9.6 = Max Continuous Power 9.6 to 10 = Take-Off Power 10 = Max Take-Off Rating 10.4 = Max Transient Power (5 s) FADEC = Full Authority Digital Engine Control Digital value of generator current. 11.6

  8. Pressing “SCROLL” twice displays the “Performance” page; the pilot then uses the “+”, “-” and “ENTER” keys to record the payload carried. The VEMD computes the AUW (All-Up Weight [Gross Weight]), and the maximum takeoff weights in IGE or OGE conditions.   9. In compliance with the Flight Manual, the pilot can check engine power by selecting “Engine Power Check”. The VEMD indicates the conditions that need to be observed to initiate an Engine Power Check. Every condition requires a pilot action. Once every condition has been met, the VEMD proceeds automatically. Engine Power Check 11.9

  10. Engine Power Check The test runs in three phases denoted by rectangles on the VEMD screen. If the flight parameters are not updated, the test repeats the previous phase. On completion of the test, which lasts about 30 seconds, the results are shown on the screen. 11.10

  12. Flight Report • At the end of the flight when N1 < 10% and NR < 70 rpm, the VEMD switches automatically to the “SHUTDOWN” mode. The VEMD then displays the Flight Report: • flight number (automatically incremented) • flight time • generator & turbine cycles (computed by the FADEC) [NG < 60% until NG > 50%] • overlimits or failures detected during the flight. 11.12

VEMD Screen Failure - failure of one screen • Select the failed screen to OFF • Read the information on the other • screen. • All the information is available using the SCROLL push-button either on the VEMD or on the collective pitch lever. • If the top screen has failed, with the lower screen in 3-parameter mode ( NG, T4, Torque), only T4 and NG will be available. • (Refer to the procedure provided in the Flight Manual, paragraph 3.5.4, ‘Loss of Ng, Torque, or T4 parameters’ for compliance with limitations.) VEMD Screen Failure - failure of both screens [ First, insure that the Day / Night switch is in the appropriate position. ] • [ Real failure is highly improbable ] • Can be a single failure when battery and DC generator are in “OFF” position (fire and smoke detection procedure). • In this case, to avoid any power overlimit, the maximum authorized power will be the power needed to establish level flight with the following law: • IAS kt = 100 kt at sea level minus (2 kt / 1000 ft Hp) • Landing procedure: carry out a no hover landing. Caution messages are self explanatory and the pilot shall comply with the action requested.
