The Selfish Fishey

1. The Selfish Fishey By : Caroline Lawver, Sami Lenskold and Chloe Conover

2. There once was a selfish fish named Hammy. He was very little and much smaller than all of the other fish. Hammy was very jealous and wanted to become bigger. One day hammy came up with an evil idea.

3. Hammy’s evil idea was to drink up all of the water in the world. Then he would be bigger than all of the fish. He started with a small pond. Hammy didn’t know that a small turtle named squirt was watching him.

4. Hammy soaked up all of the water in the small pond and moved on to the big lake. Meanwhile the squirt was following him the whole time.

5. As Hammy went from pond, to lake, to river, to bay, to ocean, little Squirt followed behind. But as Hammy drank up more and more water, Squirt was becoming tired and unhealthy, for there was no water for him to survive. Squirt began to fall behind.

6. Hammy had now drank all the water in the world except one little pond for him to live in. Because of Hammy’s new gigantic size only he could fit in the pond. All the fish were dying because Hammy took up the only water to live in. Hammy was causing humans and animals to suffer too.

7. The struggling fish were praying for some sort of precipitation but because hammy had all the water inside him, and there was no evaporation to turn into condensation, no precipitation could come. Therefore all the plants were dying because there was no ground water to nourish them. This caused many herbivores to die. Also the ponds were not refilling and the grass was turning yellow because of the lack of run off. With all this disruption and animals dying, we were all in desperate need of a hero. .

8. Squirt was still following Hammy but he was weak and far behind. As Squirt slowly moved along he spotted one drop of water on a leaf. He realized Hammy had missed one drop of water. Squirt was so weak and tired he fell asleep right next to the plant. When he woke up, the drop was gone. It must have gone through transpiration. Squirt looked to the sky and saw a drop off water plummeting to earth. Squirt quickly got underneath it and caught it in his mouth! The little turtle hadn’t had water in so long that felt like a whole glass of water. He suddenly got so much energy and was ready to be a hero

9. Squirt finally found Hammy in his own little pond. He quietly snuck up behind him and bit him. Hammy was so shocked he spit out all the water inside him! The water sprayed everywhere, replenishing all the plants, ponds, oceans, and rivers.

10. As hammy began to shrink to his original size, he realized he had that whole pond to himself and now that he wasn’t so big he wasn’t so crowded! He decided being small wasn’t so bad after all. Squirt was the savoir to all living things! Everyone and everything were happy now that the cycle was back on track!

11. Precipitation: water that moves from the atmosphere to the land and ocean, including hail, rain, snow, and sleet Evaporation: the change of state from liquid to vapor Condensation: the change of state from gas to liquid Transpiration: evaporation off the surface of plants Ground water: when precipitation seeps into the ground, where it is stored in underground caverns or in porous rock. Run off: thewater from precipitation that flows over the land surface and is not absorbed into the ground, instead flowing into streams or other surface waters or land depressions
