Forms and Photos • FORMS RETURN CHECKLIST – CONFIRM THE FORMS THAT HAVE BEEN RETURNED AND WHAT IS STILL MISSING. • PASSPORT PHOTOS - You will need to provide the IP office with the following number of passport photos: China program (1), Short-term programs in Europe (1), all other programs (0). • Print your name and program on the back of each photo before giving to IP staff. • STILL NEED PHOTOS? Group sessions offered in March: • Wednesday, March 28 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. • Thursday, March 29 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. • Photography Services office, 119 Delzell Hall. • *Email dmoore@uwsp.edu to arrange a photo session or call 346-3985. • If passport photos are taken on campus, the charge for this service will be billed directly to International Programs. Students unable to have photos taken on campus must make arrangements on their own.

Enrolled as a UWSP student, you are under UWSP conduct rules. UWSP International Programs has the right to withdraw a student from an overseas program due to student conduct that adversely affects the group experience or negatively impacts the university’s relationship with our international partners such as hostels or hotels, tour guides, museums or universities.
Academics Come First! “1. This is an academic program. I am responsible for attendance at all lectures and scheduled trips. . . .”
Take part in discussions. Give all instructors and interpreters their due respect. Act in a professional manner when with a group or in any situation that might reflect upon the group or the university.

Strive to be cognizant of group needs, respect them, and work together so as to meet those needs with a minimum of discomfort for anyone.
Cooperate with and be willing to assist the group leaders. Pay attention to announcements. Recognize that everyone has needs for help and support.

Program Costs & Payments • Your final program cost is calculated and announced approx. 4-6 weeks before departure. At that time, we finalize group costs and participant numbers with overseas institutions and travel agents, receive final invoices, and lock in exchange rates with our final payments. • Payment Schedule was included in with Acceptance Letter. In addition to your $250 or $400 deposit, you should have your first payment made.
FINANCIAL AID • Renew your 2012-13 FAFSA no later than April 15—DON’T DELAY! • Revise your award to include your additional study abroad educational expenses with the UWSP Financial Aid Office • Check your current 2011-2012 financial aid award for possible funding due to change in class standing in December—or if you initially declined your direct loan award. • Common types of student loans after Perkins is Direct, Parent PLUS or Alternative/Private Student Loan • Complete loan instructions can be found at www.uwsp.edu/finance/loans.shtm (or call 346-4771).
STUDENT LOANS • Perkins • Awarded on a need basis • Direct (subsidized/unsubsidized) • Increased maximum awards for juniors and seniors is now $7500 for the academic year • Interest rate is fixed 3.4% sub- sidized; 6.8% unsubsidized • Parent Plus Direct • If your parent is interested in borrowing in order to assist paying for your study abroad • Current interest rate is 7.9% plus a 4% processing fee • Alternative Private Student Loan • Repayment not expected until you are out of school • Loan amount varies with program cost • ONLY lending institutions offering the alternative/private student loan program: UWSP Credit Union, Wells Fargo, Chase, Citi, US Bank, Discover • Compare interest rates, processing fees, early drop off of co-signor with successful repayments, etc. • Interest rate is variable; fixed rate now available (3.78 vs. 7.49) • Complete instructions on UWSPFinancial Aid website!
Deferred Payment Form • 2012-13 financial aid awards emailed first week of May. • Summer 2012 financial aid funds disburse around June 20th. • Access 2012-13 financial aid award on your MyPoint account, Finances, Financial Aid Award & Status (see note under table for Printing). • Email or bring in award for preparation of Deferred Payment Form.
RESIDENCY • Tuition surcharge for non-residents is $250 (3 crs) -$1,000 (12 crs) instead of approx. $1,000 - $3,600 for on-campus students • Minnesota resident surcharge around $75-$200 with approved Minnesota reciprocity
FINAL TIDBITS… • Look at your current award on MyPoint, then Finances, Financial Aid Award & Status • Unusual Circumstance Form (loss of income) • www.uwsp.edu/finance under Special Topics; May possibly be eligible for grants • Independent students (24 yrs. +) are eligible for an additional $5000 in unsubsidized Direct loan. • If parent is denied a PLUS Direct, student is eligible for $4000-$5000 in addt’l unsubsidized Direct loan. • Individual advising—please bring in your award.
