Understanding Personification: A Figure of Speech

Personification is a noun referring to a figure of speech where inanimate objects or abstract concepts are given human qualities. This literary device enriches language by allowing us to describe non-human elements in relatable ways. For instance, phrases like “the stars danced playfully in the moonlit sky” illustrate personification beautifully. Synonymous with prosopopeia, it emphasizes creativity in communication, making descriptions more vivid and engaging. You can use personification in daily life by imbuing human traits to inanimate subjects for enhanced storytelling.

Personification is used when you want to give human qualities to something that is not human, it is quite like comparing. A synonym of personification is prosopopeia and an antonym could be human like. An example of personification is the following: The stars danced playfully in the moonlit sky, or, The thunder grumbled like an old man.
