  2. Important Dates! • Tuesday, October 22nd Fall Concert • Thursday, December 19th Holiday Concert • April 9th– 13th Spring Musical • Tuesday, May 20th Spring Concert

  3. Excusal from Performances: • Absence from a concert will be excused once I have received a written note or email from your parent. • Notes must be received within one week of the missed performance.

  4. Weekly Lesson Attendance • A missed lesson requires a missed lesson form, which can be found on Miss A’s website. • You have one cycle to turn in a MLF before the lesson grade becomes a 0%. • If you make up your lesson within that cycle, a form isn’t needed. • Students must make up missed lessons after missing the 2nd one per marking period.

  5. Accepted Excuses for Missing Lessons • A test is being given in your class. • You have below an 80% in the class you would miss. • You are absent from school.

  6. Grading Criteria Participation in Class and Lesson Performance

  7. Participation in ClassThe following qualities and criteria will be taken into consideration: • Attitude • Interest • Cooperation • Attention • Conduct • Respect • Leadership • Posture • Patience

  8. Lesson PerformanceThe following areas will be observed during the weekly lesson: • Tempo and Rhythm • Dynamics • Fingerings • Intonation • Bowing Skills • Tone • Shifting and Positions • Vibrato • Posture

  9. Performance Attire for Men: • Tuxedo or Black Suit • White Shirt • Black Bow Tie • Black Socks and Shoes

  10. Performance Attire for Women: • Long Black Dress with Sleeves (please no tank tops or spaghetti strap dresses) • Long Black Skirt or Pants with Black Shirt • Black Shoes

  11. PMEA Festival and Youth Symphony Participation • Students wishing to participate in PMEA events or HSYO MUST be a member in GOOD standing of the CVHS Orchestra!

  12. After School Rehearsals: • Prior to each concert there will be at least 2 after school rehearsals • Attendance is required at these rehearsals.

  13. Written Concert Critiques: • Students will be required to submit a varying written performance evaluation following each concert. Some assignments will be completed during class time, others will be assigned as homework. • Download assignments from Miss A’s website. • Critiques are worth 100 points.

  14. CVHS Insurance Policy • The insurance policy carried by the Cumberland Valley School District does not cover your personal property. • Thus, any lost, stolen, or damaged personal instruments or equipment MUST be covered on your parent’s homeowner’s insurance. • Please write down your instrument serial number and keep it in a safe place.

  15. Instrument Locker Room • Every student MUST have a lock on their locker door. • Every student MUST register their locker number and combination with Miss. A • Students MUST put instruments away after each rehearsal. • Instruments are not to sit in the room. • (Yes, that means you, CELLO SECTION!)

  16. Have you ever wondered…………………….Why Does Miss A. Teach Orchestra??? • Not because I expect you to major in music! • Not because I expect you to play your instrument your entire life! • Not so you can have a release and relax! • Not so you can just have fun! • BUT…………….
