The Erasmus Without Paper Project aims to streamline the exchange of student data across higher education institutions in Europe and beyond. With more students studying abroad under the Erasmus+ program, the need for efficient data management is critical. This initiative focuses on reducing paper-based processes by creating a network that enables secure, reliable, and standardized data exchange. By engaging various stakeholders, including educational institutions, student organizations, and commercial partners, the project seeks to enhance mobility scenarios, improve identity management, and develop effective data models.

Erasmus without paper Context and problem area • More and more HEI students in Europe now do part of their studies abroad as exchange students (study periods and placements) • Erasmus+ is Europe’s new mobility programme 2014-2021, and is now going global • Large amounts of student data need to be exchanged in the process • Even though most of it is stored electronically, the exchange of data is still largely paper-based
Erasmus without paper Documents to be stamped and signed • Bilateral agreement • Application form • Nominations • Learning agreement and change form(s!) including student data and course catalogue data • Transcript of Records • Diploma supplements • Arrival/Departure certificates • Institutional key data
