  1. Graduate Student Support Plan Membership Requirements At-A-Glance Graduate Students on appointments as Grad Research Assistants or Fellows of at least $8,000 are eligible for the Graduate Student Support Plan. Benefits: Tuition (instate/out-of-state), Health Insurance Allowable semesters • Masters (MR) – 4 • Doctoral who had an MR in same or related field – 8 • Doctoral who did NOT have an MR in same or related field - 10

Graduate Student Support Plan Who Pays? http://www.ncsu.edu/grad/support-plan/who-pays.html Currently, Tuition Remission or the Out-of-State portion of a Non Resident or International Student’s tuition has been covered by a “Slot” through the Graduate Student Support Plan. In most cases, the account a student’s stipend is paid from is automatically charged in-state tuition and health insurance.

  3. Graduate Student Support Plan Changes effective July 1, 2012 The following accounts supporting Non Resident/International students will be charged 25% of the tuition remission (out-of-state tuition) in addition to the in-state portion of the tuition and health insurance

Changes effective July 1, 2012 Exceptions will no longer be allowed for Students who go beyond their time limit (grad school will no longer cover TR) however if a faculty member wants to cover the tuition, a request would need to be sent to the DGP and Dean for approval. Once approved, the graduate school will charge the account the student is paid from the full cost of in state tuition, health insurance and tuition remission (out-of-state tuition).

  5. Changes • effective July 1, 2012 for budgeting purposes • Health insurance is expected to increase from $1706.00 to $2,026 per year. Health insurance is billed to accounts on a monthly basis and effective dates run from the 15th to the 15th of each month. • Tuition is expected to increase at least 6.5% • In-state$2979 to $3,172.50 per semester • Out-of-state$9,003 to $9,588.19 per semester • Accounts mentioned earlier that will experience the 25% tuition remission match should include at least $1,603.89 per semester (9 credits) for any international or Non Resident Students • These estimates are subject to change

  6. Role of Student Services • We will track student’s progress and report their standing to the student and Advisor on an annual basis • We will report any loss of benefits to the student, advisor and department • We will report any changes in cost of attendance to the faculty and departments
