  1. All-Fiber Optical Parametric Oscillator (FOPO) Chengao Wang

  2. Review of OPO

  3. Review of OPO

  4. Four wave mixing (FWM) • General FWM • Parametric Amplification in FWM

  5. Degenerated FWM • i= 2p-s

  6. Phase matching condition • For intense pump:

  7. phase matching near the zero dispersion wavelength At the zero dispersion wavelength , Expand near

  8. Advantage of FOPO • tunable alternative to solid-state lasers • compact • virtually alignment free

  9. Limitations • Nonlinearity of conventional fibers are very low. • Pump power is not sufficient high to provide gain Parametric gain coefficient under phase matching condition

  10. Recent Development Last year, a team has demonstrated the first continuous wave FOPO using a holey fiber. The oscillator they made operates at 1550nm and can yield an oscillation parametric signal that consists of a single line with a 30 dB extinction ratio

  11. Three key elements of the design • the use of a high power CW(3.5 W) pump • refinement of their fiber splicing technique (the lowest splice loss was 0.42 dB) • state-of-the-art micro-structured fiber

  12. Thanks

  13. Frequency component generated by FWM

  14. Coupled amplitude equations Linear phase mismatch
