  2. Searching for the Good Shepherd • God- Our Creator and Shepherd of our souls- Psalm 23:1 • God appointed shepherds for Israel Numbers 22:16-17 II Samuel 5:2; II Samuel 7:7,8 • Most of Israel’s shepherds failed Ezekiel 34:1-6 • God’s promise- Ezekiel 34:11-16 “I myself will shepherd the sheep”

  3. John Chapters 8-10 • Sukkoth- Chanukah • Chapter 9- Jesus heals a blind man • The false shepherds chastise the blind man and toss him out • Jesus comforts and receives the believing healed blind man • Jesus shows compassion for the lost sheep- Mark 6:34 “Like sheep without a shepherd”

How Do We Recognize the Good Shepherd? • He enters by the door v.1 • False shepherds enter “another way” • The sheep know and recognize His voice v.4 • They run from the false shepherds • He leads them out in safety Numbers 28:16-17 Psalm 23:2,3 • False shepherds run from danger ( or compromise with it) • The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep v.18
