  3. God Loves You

  4. “All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts” William Shakespeare

  5. For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men. I Corinthians 4:9 (KJV)

  6. For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like men condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to men. I Corinthians 4:9 (NIV)

  7. Reaction What one thing did you learn on the field trip to Elmshaven (be specific). What was your “ah-ha” moment? What was one thing you would have liked to have done at Elmshaven, but didn’t get to? What are 2 suggestions you have for next year’s field trip to Elmshaven? What importance do you see in remembering the life and times of Ellen G. White? What value is there? What difference might it make if more people knew?

  8. What the Great Controversy is all about

  9. What is the key to understanding the “great controversy” between good and evil? • How much does God desire our freedom? • Does satan really desire our freedom as well? • What aspects of life does God control? • What aspects of life does God let us do on our own? • What price would you pay for freedom? • What are the major symbols in “The Truman Show”? • What are you going to do with this one and only life?

  10. The Truman Show 25 min

  11. Journaling What is the significance of the names connected with the show? Describe the various metaphors the director employs (think: the locked travel trunk in the basement) What are some of Truman’s desires he keeps “hidden” from other people? Describe his private self. What public persona does Truman have? Describe his public self. When this movie came out, reality TV was getting a foothold, but far from the mega-money-maker it became. Why do you think people like “reality” TV or buy/read People magazine?

  14. Journaling Truman’s wife is arranged for him. This works in many societies. Marital happiness is higher and divorce is lower. But what are the moral implications in the case of Truman? Sylvia tries to explain what “reality” is. How is she treated? How does Truman handle the situation? Describe in detail the “break-out” scene. What is the significance of going-round and round, or breaking his routine. Imagine Truman’s thoughts/feelings. What could possibly be going through his mind?

  20. Journaling Compare and contrast Truman’s world with our own. What are the similarities? What are the differences? Which one would you rather be in? Why? Truman’s best friend lies right to his face. Every one else is lying as well. Or are they? It was all real on the show. Even if the “outside” is reality, the whole “inside” is true. Or is it? Explain your reasoning. Think. Think hard. This is the major motif in the movie.
