What is Summon? • Summon is a web scale library discovery tool. • It helps users to discover resources regardless of the format. • It eliminates the need for users to go to multiple user interfaces. • It searches the entire library collection and collates the results. • If your search request is unfulfilled it automatically gives you the option to complete a document delivery request form.   3. Summon link on the Website: Summon Discovery Tool You see the above link on the Library webpage. Click on link and it will take you this page. Footer Text

  4. Let’s do a simple search for “sleep apnea”: Footer Text

  5. Let’s add “sleep apnea + symptoms” Notice the number of hits 8,947. It also shows the two databases that SUMMON recommends. In order to fine tune the search results we can add limits. Footer Text

  6. Let’s select ‘Nocturia and snoring’. If you move the cursor over the title you will be able to preview the article. You can then choose to open the full article. Footer Text

  7. How to uselimits to fine tune your search: • Set limit by choosing content type. • Set limits by selecting publication period. • Set limit by choosing a particular language. Search term: Sleep apnea treatment Open search: 17,615 Add limits as below: Content Type: Journal articles Publication period: January 1st 2012 to present date Language: English only Other limits: Scholarly articles only Search result reduced from 17,615 hits to 513 Footer Text

  8. Using limits brings up a smaller selection of articles to choose from. Let’s look at the article on ‘Gender differences in treatment recommendations for sleep apnea’. When selected it will open this new window. Click on Full text to retrieve the entire article. Footer Text

  9. For some selection you need to login via ezproxy. Footer Text

  10. Let’s select another article. Note that the article is from the JAMA archives collection. Click to retrieve and see what happens? Footer Text

  11. To retrieve the article from the JAMA collection click on the article link. It opens up this window and you can go directly to the Article, the Journal or the collection. Footer Text

  12. I selected article and it brings me to this page. You now have access to the full text from the JAMA collection. Footer Text
