  1. THE EARTH Claude,Carlos,Cristina,Anthony, Brittany,Joshua,and Robert

  2. Introduction • In these slides we will be telling you about earths atmosphere , interior , surface , water and life , plate tectonics , and geology . We will also be telling you about the affects in our atmosphere . I hope you’ll enjoy our presentations .

  3. GLACIER • Glacier are large mass of moving ice. • Glacier form high mountains. Glaciers shape the land in many ways. • As glaciers move they scrap away lost fragments of stone from the earth. • As glaciers rough during their life time they reshape the land.

  4. Biomes • Biomes are large geographic regions with particular kinds of climates and communities. • Different biomes are tundra: the northern most coldest biome • Taiga: a forest biome just south of the tundra biome. • Grassland: the biome’s characterize are many trees and grassy.

  5. The Atmosphere • A layer of surrounds the earth like a blanket. This blanket is called Earth’s atmosphere.  Sometimes the Earth’s atmosphere gives off a bluish color when the sunlight hits the atmosphere.

  6. Whats in the air • 78 percent of the atmosphere is nitrogen,it is also 21 percent oxygen, and 1 of other gases. • These other gases are called argon, meon, carbon dioxide, water vapor, these gases form special layers called the ozone layer. • when gases such as fuel from cars driving pollute the atmosphere

  7. Aqua World • The minerals called manganese iron, and salt are located in the nodules. • The minerals in the ocean water have collected small objects such as shark’s teeth. Minerals are easier to get from the land than from the ocean floor. • Minerals on land become more scarce it will be taken.

  8. Interior of the Living Planet  The Earth’s diameter is about 12,500 kilometers . Its interior is made of and consists of rock, liquid , and metal. Interior means the insides of something. There are four layers in Earth’s interior :1.crust.2.mantle.3.liquid outer core .4.solid inner core.

  9. Our World • The crust is the outermost part of the Earth. • It is where we live. • It is 0-40 kilometers. • Earth’s crust is broken into large plates. • The plates move slowly to each other. • Mountain ranges form when two plates collide.

  10. The World Beyond • The mantle is the thickest layer of Earth. • It is right under the crust. • The Earth’s mantle makes 59% of the Earth’s mass and it is 40-2700 kilometers underground . • It is dense and mostly solid silicate rock.

  11. Liquid Outer Core  Earth’s liquid outer core is about 1400 miles thick and is liquid. • It is so hot that the metals , nickel and iron , are all in their liquid state. • Scientists think that about 10% of this layer is composed of sulfur and/or oxygen.

  12. Hot,hot, hot!!! • The solid inner core has a diameter three-quarters of the moon. • Its rotation is thought to be caused by convection that produces Earth’s magnetic field. • The temperature in the inner core is so hot that it remains solid.  The temperature is about 4300 degrees Centigrade.

  13. The Special Object Called Plants We have plants, animals, humans, air, and water. Plants help us not breath carbon-dioxide. Plants produce sugar so they can survive and they get the energy from the sun and water

  14. Our Human Cycles • Us humans breathe air which is known to us as oxygen. • Humans eat animals to survive. • Humans have two kinds of genders which are the male and female.

  15. The Animals on Earth • Animals help us live. • We need animals for our food. • Animals kill bugs for us and then anteaters eat them.

  16. Earth’s Plate Tectonics • Plate tectonics are a theory that states that the lithosphere is broken into plates that move . Plate tectonics float on a thin layer of partly melted rock that moves or orbits around the earth. • Plate tectonics move about two centimeters per year . Others may move as fast as 15 centimeters per year . Plates move toward , away from or past each other .Plate tectonics move fast or slow determining the weather either cold or warm .

  17. Earth’s Landforms • Geology is the study of Earth’s land surface. • Earth’s land surface is gradually changing. • Land forms are changing faster during earthquakes. • Earth’s deserts are growing because of weather pattering influenced by nearby terrains .

  18. Deserts • Over 30% of earths land is covered in desert , and that number is growing . • Some of this expansion of desert may be caused by the earth gradually growing warmer , but the expansion of deserts is also due to overgrazing of animals or other human activities.
