Introduction and Overview • In order to share new ideas and relate to a changing workforce, it is increasingly important to engage younger SAE members (35 and Younger). • In this session: • Communicate effectively with younger members • increase their attendance to events • meet their needs in areas of networking and career development

Communication – Social Media • Why important? • Most effective method of targeting the student population • Efficient means of E-Marketing • Means of gauging reactions to various events hosted by the section and potential improvements • Present Scenario: • No defined Social Media role on the SAE COS governing council • Suggested Improvement and Outcome: • Dedicated role will ensure maximum exposure on these forums

Networking and Career Development • Student Involvement – Why? • Students are the future! • Networking and career advancement opportunities for students • Students bring an innovative and fresh way of thinking • Opportunity for students to get involved with in the Engineering Field outside of school

Networking and Career Development • Student Involvement- Examples • Get Involved with the Universities and Engineering Societies. • Frosh Week • Support Engineering Society events • Hold Events such as speakers, conferences or shows on University Campuses • Governing Board Representatives • Each School is asked to have a representative from a engineering society or team to attend monthly meetings • If all else fails, offer free food or money! SAE Booth at UofT Frosh Week SAE Central Ontario Event Held on campus

Networking and Career Development • SAE CDS - Students Night • Annual Event organized by SAE Central Ontario • All Universities with in Central Ontario are invited to bring their CDS projects for display • Design Challenge presentation followed by question and answer period by SAE Judges • Top 3 Presentations win money to support next years project Students Night 2009 – U of T Aero-Design Students Night 2013 – Oregon Section Students Night 2011 – U of T Formula.

  23. Networking and Career Development • SAE CDS – U of T Shoot Out • Annual event organized by University of Toronto Formula SAE team • All Formula SAE teams are invited to a friendly event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Pak • Supported by SAE Central Ontario

Networking and Career Development • Job Seekers • Publicize meetings where job seekers can find them • Keep online calendar up to date • Cross-promote with other Engineering and Technical Societies • Present to job seekers group • E.g. High-Tech Networking Group in Beaverton, OR • Emphasize the networking opportunities from SAE • Company Representatives
