  1. … the act of figuring out again where you are in relationship to your environment, and pointing yourself in the right direction.

  2. … the act of figuring out again where you are in relationship to God, and pointing yourself in His direction.

  3. The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: ‘I will send my messenger ahead of you,    who will prepare your way’ –‘a voice of one calling in the wilderness,“Prepare the way for the Lord,    make straight paths for him.”’ And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

  4. The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptised by him in the River Jordan. John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt round his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. And this was his message: ‘After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I baptise you with water, but he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.’

  5. Repentance: … to completely change your mind; your attitudes; your conduct … to be sorry for one’s actions and turn around to new action

  6. … keep a soft heart

  7. Blessed is the one who always trembles before God,but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble. Proverbs 28:14

  8. … keep a soft heart … keep a humble heart

  9. You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:4-6

  10. … keep a soft heart … keep a humble heart … keep alert

  11. So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time. James 4:7-8

  12. … keep a soft heart … keep a humble heart … keep alert … keep hating sin

  13. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet. James 4:8-10

  14. disorientation: to cause (someone) to lose his  bearings … to perplex; confuse …
