Basic Requirements • Must have a Valid Illinois Drivers License. • Must be a U.S. Citizen. • Must be between 21 and 35 years of age at time of appointment. • Must be a High School Graduate or Equivalent. • Must pass Physical, Psychiatric, and Written Testing. • Must pass Criminal, Credit and Employment Background Checks KANKAKEE FIRE DEPARTMENT The Desire to Serve, the Courage to Act, & The Ability to Perform.

  5. Hiring Process • Background Check ---- Criminal, Credit & Employment • Sit down meeting with the Fire Chief. • Must pass a Psychological Test • Must pass a Pre-Employment Physical. KANKAKEE FIRE DEPARTMENT The Desire to Serve, the Courage to Act, & The Ability to Perform.

From Rookie to Chief • GET YOURSELF MOTIVATED ON DAY ONE !! • 2 to 4 Week Dayshift Orientation. • Firefighter II Academy if not Already Certified. • Assigned to a Shift to Work as a Firefighter & Medic if • EMT Certified. • Three Years to be Certified as FF III and EMT-P. • Must be FAE Certified to Operate Fire Apparatus.   7. BE A LEADER!! • Start taking F.O. (required for promotion) and • College Classes. • Take Promotional Exams for Lieutenant & Captain. • Promote YOURSELF to Lieutenant, then Captain, • followed by Asst. Chief and then to Fire Chief.
