  1. DIGESTION & ABSORPTION UNDERSTANDING HOW TO HAVE OPTIMAL DIGESTION & ABSORBTION FOOD COMBINING INSIGHTS

  2. EATING FOR STRENGTH...NOT FOR DRUNKENNESS • PRINCIPLES RELATING TO OUR FOOD CHOICES • Ecclesiastes 10:17 Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness! What is drunkenness? • Isaiah 49:26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD [am] thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

  3. thy princes… eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness! Regular time for eating creatures of habit Wholesome food Whole foods, non-processed etc Not for pleasure… gluttony enjoys food Eats according to health

  4. Isaiah 49:26 • And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD [am] thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

  5. And I will feed (H398 akal-to burn up, consume, devour) them that oppress thee with (H226 eth—demonstrative sense of entity or self; used to point out more definitely the object of the verb-feed) their own flesh (H1319 basar—flesh, body, person, skin)

  6. ‘drunken with their own blood’ • H7937 Shakar shaw-kar’ A primitive root; to become tipsy; in a qualified sense, to satiate with a stimulating drink or influence… • ‘With their own blood’ • H1826 dam dawm; blood (as that which when shed causes death) of man or an animal; by analogy the juice of the grape’ figuratively (especially in the plural) bloodshed:-blood (-y, -guiltiness, [-thirsty]), +innocent

  7. The Deadly Corruption of Digestion “Indigestion is usually thought of as an “upset stomach” or a discomfort in the abdomen, and isn’t taken very seriously. Often, we either ignore it as temporary or mask it with some drug store goo—antacids being the number one requested over-the-counter remedy in most countries.

  8. But recurrent or chronic indigestion is deadly. Its worst aspect is much less obvious than stomach upset: gradual impediment of intestinal function, especially the large intestine ( colon, or lower bowel). This can go unnoticed until serious conditions exist.” pg. 39S&T by dr. R.O.Young

  9. Digestive disturbances supportsnegative bacteria, yeast and fungus • Large populations of special plant forms of life, which we can’t live without, normally thrive in the human digestive tract. • If we can stop abusing (killing them off ) these little guys, we can get well. • Maintaining optimal digestion maintains positive or “friendly bacteria” (Normal Flora)

  10. 692. Intemperance in eating, even of food of the right quality, will have a prostrating influence upon the system. . .Strict temperance in eating and drinking is highly essential for the healthy preservation and vigorous exercise of all the functions of the body. . .Intemperance commences at our tables, in the use of unhealthful food. After a time, through continued indulgence, the digestive organs become weakened...Unhealthy conditions are established…T., V. III, p. 487. {HL 168.5}

  11. Abuses/Intemperance • As we age we become increasingly stressed by our Diets, our emotions, electromagnetic stress, injury, polluted air and water, medications especially antibiotics, improper breathing techniques therefore lowered oxygen levels, the hurry of life and it’s stressors. All of these encourage the negative bacteria & Y/F forms, a decreasing of the friendly Flora. Let us explain:

  12. Diet and Mucus • What is mucus? A clear slippery substance secreted by healthy mucus cells in response to matter being ingested, even water, to protect the lining of mucus membranes • Naturally will engulf toxins becoming thick sticky, cloudy, and finally gummy or hard, sometimes black • Which foods brings this result?? • Worst offenders—DAIRY products;

  13. Then animal protein, including fish • White flour, sugar, rice, seeds that have the bran (outer covering) removed • Any processed foods: Oils such as corn, soy, vegetable etc. Use only Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Virgin Coconut Oil or expeller expressed plant based oil; Junk foods, fried foods, fast foods, coffee, alcoholic beverages. • Low fiber in diet

  14. Food combinations for Health • Poor food combination is a major cause of mucoid production, as well as Y/F overgrowth. • Protein digests in the stomach, requiring a highly acid environment. • Starch is digested in the mouth and in the small intestine. It requires a slightly alkaline environment • Interferes with each other’s digestion resulting in digestive failure of both

  15. Sugar and starch ex. Peanut butter • Sugar and protein and jelly sandwich • The above poor combinations during digestion release alcohol, acetic acid, ptomaines, leucomaines, hydrogen sulphide, etc… • The bloodstream should receive from the digestive tract water, amino acids, fatty acids, glycerol, monosaccharides, minerals and vitamins.

  16. Constipation The digestive disturbances promoted by a Y/F infested GI tract are: • Constant putrefaction • fermentation, • heart burn, • gas, • bloated stomach, • ulcers, nausea, • Gastritis Constipation surely follows!

  17. Coated tongue Diarrhea Stagnation cramps Gas Foul odor Intestinal pain Inflammation i.e. Colitis, diverticulitis Leaky Gut syndrome Constipation means “packing together” The compaction of mucoid & intestinal matter reaches a point where material begins to adhere to the colon wall. The Signs of which are:

  18. Between this gooey mass and the colon wall is home to disharmonious microforms. As the organisms metabolize in their perfect breeding ground, their waste products poison the colon environment… • This sets the stage for leaky gut, cancer, and a few others like Candida Albicans, the precursor to AID syndrome. This is the point where they prepare to bore through the colon wall into the blood stream.

  19. Dysbiosis: vegans take note! • Is an imbalance in the intestinal flora • Leads to compromise of the intestinal wall • And the leaking of morbid microforms and poisons into the blood stream • It is fueled in healthy lower bowels by diets containing 50% or more complex carbohydrates (grains/legumes) AND simple carbohydrates i.e. sweet fruits, fruit juices, sucrose, honey, molasses, maple syrup sweeteners, etc.

  20. Foods colonized with Y/F forms In the late 1900s a study was reported in which it was shown that certain foods were contaminated during growing with Fungal colonization. These foods are: Corn, Peanuts, cashew nuts, animal flesh and fat. The animal substances contain large amounts of mycotoxins.

  21. What must I do to be saved from myself?? To optimize digestion, and the lining of our whole intestinal tract; Also in restoration of friendly bacteria; we need to transform our lifestyle, bringing it to the word given us through inspiration. Demonstrated and supported by science.

  22. TOXIC THOUGHTS • 669. The stomach has a controlling power upon the health of the entire body. . . . The brain nerves are in strong sympathy with the stomach.--H. R. {HL 162.3} • It is the duty of everyone to cultivate cheerfulness instead of brooding over sorrow and troubles. Many not only make themselves wretched in this way, but they sacrifice health and happiness to a morbid imagination. There are things in their surroundings that are not agreeable, and their countenances wear a continual frown that, more plainly than words, expresses discontent.

  23. These depressing emotions are a great injury to them health wise; for by hindering the process of digestion, they interfere with nutrition. While grief and anxiety cannot remedy a single evil, they can do great harm; but cheerfulness and hope, while they brighten the pathway of others, "are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh." {AH 430.3}

  24. Mental Depression • 220. A diseased body affects the brain. With the mind we serve the Lord. {HL 54.1} • 221. All should guard the senses, lest Satan gain victory over them; for these are the avenues to the soul. {HL 54.2} • 222. The brain nerves which communicate to the entire system are the only medium through which Heaven can communicate to man, and affect his inmost life. Whatever disturbs the circulation of the electric currents in the nervous system, lessens the strength of the vital powers, and the result is a deadening of the sensibilities of the mind.{HL 54.3}

  25. LIST OF HELPS FOR RESTORING DIGESTION • Chewing food until it is like milk • 663. The benefit you derive from your food does not depend so much on the quantity eaten as on its thorough digestion, nor the gratification of the taste so much on the amount of food swallowed as on the length of time it remains in the mouth. . . . Eat slowly, and allow the saliva to mingle with the food. . . . Those who are excited, anxious, or in a hurry, cannot supply the necessary gastric juice.--R. and H., 1884, No. 31. {HL 161.3}

  26. NO Heavy Mental Work • 667. Immediately after eating there is a strong draught upon the nervous energy. The brain force is called into active exercise to assist the stomach; therefore, when the mind or body is taxed heavily after eating, the process of digestion is hindered. The vitality of the system, which is needed to carry on the work in one direction, is called away and set to work in another.--T., V. II, p. 413. {HL 162.2}

  27. Stomach REST • 668. The stomach, when we lie down to rest, should have its work all done, that it may enjoy rest, as well as other portions of the body. The work of digestion should not be carried on through any period of the sleeping hours. After the stomach, which has been overtaxed, has performed its task, it becomes exhausted, which causes faintness. . . . The stomach becomes weary by being kept constantly at work. . . . Having no time for rest, the digestive organs become enfeebled, hence the sense of "goneness," and desire for frequent eating. . . . The stomach must have its regular periods for labor and rest.--H. to L., Chap. I, p. 56. {HL 162.3}

  28. RESTbetweenMeals • The stomach becomes weary by being kept constantly at work. . . . Having no time for rest, the digestive organs become enfeebled, hence the sense of "goneness," and desire for frequent eating. . . . The stomach must have its regular periods for labor and rest.--H. to L., Chap. I, p. 56. {HL 162.3}

  29. Irregularity of Meals • 678. After the stomach has done its work for one meal, do not crowd more work upon it before it has had a chance to rest, and to provide a sufficient supply of gastric juice for the next meal. Five hours at least should be given between each meal, and always bear in mind that if you would give it a trial, you would find that two meals would be better than three.--U. T., Aug. 30, 1896. {HL 164.6}

  30. 679. If a third meal be eaten at all, it should be light, and several hours before going to bed. But with many the poor tired stomach may complain of weariness in vain. More food is forced upon it, which sets the digestive organs in motion, again to perform the same round of labor through the sleeping hours. The sleep is generally disturbed with unpleasant dreams, and in the morning they awake unrefreshed. There is a sense of languor and loss of appetite. A lack of energy is felt through the entire system. In a short time the digestive organs are worn out, for they have had no time to rest. Such persons become miserable dyspeptics, and wonder what has made them so. The cause has brought the sure result.

  31. If this practise is indulged in a great length of time, the health will become seriously impaired. The blood becomes impure, the complexion sallow, and eruptions will frequently appear. You will often hear complaints of frequent pains and soreness in the region of the stomach; and while performing labor, the stomach becomes so tired that they are obliged to desist from work, and rest. They seem to be at a loss to account for this state of things; for, setting this aside, they are apparently healthy. . . .

  32. After the stomach, which has been overtaxed, has performed its task, it is exhausted, which causes faintness. Here many are deceived, and think that it is the want of food that produces such feelings, and without giving the stomach time to rest, they take more food, which for the time removes the faintness. . . . {HL 165.1}

  33. Drinking with Meals? • 672. Food should not be washed down; no drink is needed with meals. . . . The more liquid there is taken into the stomach with meals, the more difficult it is for the food to digest; for the liquid must first be absorbed. . . . Many make a mistake in drinking cold water with their meals. Taken with meals, water diminishes the flow of the salivary glands; {HL 163.3}

  34. Drink Temperature • and the colder the water, the greater the injury to the stomach. . Ice-water or iced lemonade, drunk with meals, will arrest digestion until the system has imparted sufficient warmth to the stomach to enable it to take up its work again.-- {HL 163.3} • “Diminishes the flow of saliva…” • “Injures the Stomach…” decreases blood flow to lining, dwarfing and • Paralyzes the digestive glands

  35. 673. Hot drinks are debilitating; and besides, those who indulge in their use become slaves to the habit. . . . But if anything is needed to quench thirst, pure water drunk some little time before or after the meal is all that nature requires. Never take tea, coffee, beer, wine, or any spirituous liquor. Water is the best liquid possible to cleanse the tissues {HL 164.1}

  36. Substance Abuse • Medicine • Drugs • Caffeine teas • Alcoholic beverages • Soda pop • Sweeteners • Food additives • Refined foods • Overfilling of the stomach

  37. Over-eating • 260. What influence does overeating have upon the stomach?--It becomes debilitated, the digestive organs are weakened, and disease, with all its train of evils, is brought on as the result.--T., V. II, p. 364. {HL 62.2} • 680. Gluttonous feasts, and food taken into the stomach at untimely seasons, leave an influence upon every fiber of the system.--H. R. {HL 166.2}

  38. “Some do not exercise control over their appetites, but indulge tasteat the expense of health. As the result, the brain is clouded, their thoughts are sluggish, and they fail to accomplish what they might if they were self-denying and abstemious. These rob God of the physical and mental strength which might be devoted to His service if temperance were observed in all things.

  39. continued The word of God places the sin of gluttony in the same catalogue with drunkenness. So offensive was this sin in the sight of God that He gave directions to Moses that a child who would not be restrained on the point of appetite, but would gorge himself with anything his taste might crave, should be brought by his parents before the rulers in Israel and should be stoned to death.

  40. continued The condition of the glutton was considered hopeless. He would be of no use to others and was a curse to himself. No dependence could be placed upon him in anything. His influence would be ever contaminating others, and the world would be better without such a character for his terrible defects would be perpetuated.

  41. continued None who have a sense of their accountability to God will allow the animal propensities to control reason. Those who do this are not Christians, whoever they may be and however exalted their profession. The injunction of Christ is, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." Matthew 5:48. He here shows us that we may be as perfect in our sphere as God is in His sphere.” Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, pp. 454, 455 (1880).

  42. Fresh Air and Exercise; Help for digestion • Fresh air will purify the blood, refresh the body, and help to make it strong and healthy… It gives a healthful stimulus to the appetite, renders the digestion of food more perfect,… {CTBH 104.1} • 699. Pure, fresh air . . . excites the appetite, renders the digestion of food more perfect, and induces sound, sweet sleep.--T., V. I, p. 702. {HL 170.2}

  43. Parting Foundational thought • Parietal cells • Hydrochloric Acid • Threshold necessary • Pancreatic enzymes • Normal Flora • Clean stomach • Where does God fit into all of this?

  44. “What the Father and Son do, through the Holy Spirit to keep you alive, moment by moment! The continual production of protein within every cell in your body… • Billions of processes occur every second within every square inch of your body, requiring the direct guidance of God.

  45. For example, your body is composed of tiny cells—so small that there are 1,000 of them in an area the size of the dot at the end of this sentence. • Here is how protein is made within each of those cells: • Among many other things, there are codons in your cell DNA. The sequence they are in determines the precise order in which amino acids will be linked up, so that proteins and enzymes (a type of protein) can be made. There are 20 types of amino acids and over 2,000 different types of proteins and enzymes, each with

  46. its own complicated structure which must be continually manufactured. And, they are constructed with extreme rapidity by other tiny proteins which have no brains! In brief, the DNA contains the blueprint; and the RNA uses it to make the various proteins and enzymes. Messenger RNA (mRNA) copies the code from a part of the DNA strand (the process is called “transcription”). The mRNA then travels with the information over to the ribosomes, an assembly area

  47. made of ribosomal RNA (rRNA). Mean while, transfer RNA (tRNA) in the cytoplasm is busily combining with exactly the right amino acids needed by the rRNA for the task; and then it carries them over to the ribosomes to be matched up with the mRNA, All done by particles without brains. At the same time, other ignorant proteins go to the cell wall and haul back amino acids which just entered the DNA for this assemble operation. Yet they do this by themselves, usually just the exact amount needed! Where do those additional amino acids come from? Exactly the correct number and

  48. type of amino acids must jump off the blood cells which are speeding by, at a fairly fast rate, and push through the solid wall of the cell. (The cell wall itself keeps everything not needed from entering.) Once inside, the amino acids are taken to the assembly area. All these functions are done by mindless substances; however, everything is done at top speed, yet in just the right way. From piles of 20 different kinds of amino acids, over 2,000 different, extremely complex, proteins and enzymes are formed, to replace worn-out ones.

  49. But that is not the end of the amazing story. As soon as each new protein is made, it instantly folds into an apparently tangled heap—but it is always in the exact shape that the protein should be in. This process is repeated trillions of times every second in your body by unthinking particles which, because they do not have nerve cells attached to your brain, have no way of knowing how to do anything.

  50. Apparently, it is the Holy Spirit which is at work within every plant, animal, and intelligent being in the universe. This is not pantheism, which teaches that God IS everything. “The Holy Spirit is Himself divested of the personality of humanity and independent thereof. He, Christ, would represent Himself as present in all places by His Holy Spirit, as the Omnipresent” 14MR, 23, 1895 DA 669-670 similar
