  2. Reminders • Classroom is “English Only” • Please turn off cell phones • First Timed Writing: October 21 (next Wednesday) • Timed writings cannot be rescheduled or made up for any reason!

  3. In-Class Reading • Read pp. 99-100 in Sourcework • Question: What are three important elements of an Introduction?

  4. Writing Workshop #2 • Step 1: Read the article “Controversial Transplant a Success” beginning on p. 197 in Sourcework • Recommendation: take notes in the margins as you read • Step 2: Write a one-paragraph summary of the article (refer to pp. 21-27 for information about summarizing)

  5. Writing Workshop #2 • Step 3: Using the following Research Question, write an appropriate Thesis Statement: Should scientists be allowed to create human embryos for experimental purposes? Why or why not?

  6. Writing Workshop #2 • Step 4: Write topic sentences (at least 3) that go along with your Thesis Statement • Step 5: Write one body paragraph using one of the topic sentences you wrote • Body paragraph must include one quote from the article, followed by an APA style citation • Step 6: Write an Introduction for the essay • Make sure to end the Introduction with your Thesis Statement

  7. Homework • Finish body paragraph, Introduction • Write the other two body paragraphs for the essay • Each body paragraph should have at least one quote or paraphrase to support the topic sentence • You may use other sources as long as you appropriately cite your source in APA format

  8. Homework (cont.) • On Wednesday you will submit a four-paragraph essay, including: • Introduction • Three body paragraphs • Each body paragraph should contain one quote or paraphrase; may include quotes from sources other than the article from class • Essays must be typed • Attach your work from class today!!
