  13. Proper sprocket location is essential for smooth belt operation. Sprocket teeth must always drive against the connector rods. This is accomplished by locating the DRIVE sprockets so that the teeth are in the odd numbered openings and locating the TAIL sprockets in the even numbered openings. When mounting sprockets, the long side of the hubs MUST FACE IN THE SAME DIRECTION. Drive sprockets cannot be located in the outside mesh openings in belt specifications S3, H4 and H5. Never use tail sprockets to power another conveyor. Sprocket Location BS&k Company and Jerry Brothers Industries. Page # 13

  26. MESH DESIGNATION ·First Count is no. of loops per foot of width. ·Second Count is no. of connectors per foot of length. ·Third count is the wire gauge. If the third count is four numbers (two pairs of numbers), the first is the gauge of the connector wire and the second is the gauge of the spiral wire. “F” indicates flattened spiral wire Spirals: Flattened wire formed into helicals. Helicals of opposite directional windings are joined into an alternating pattern to form a continuous fabric. Right hand spiral shown. Crimped Connectors: Round wire formed into peaks and valleys to house spirals. This “special” crimp design preseats and stabilizes spirals which reduces break-in stretch and prevents lateral spiral movement. Spirals & Crimps BS&k Company and Jerry Brothers Industries. 37. Questions To Ask • Have you chosen the right belt • While it is OK to get the specs on the belt your customer is using to quote, you really need to ask if they are having problems with it or would they like their belt to do something different. • There are almost an unlimited number of mesh belts that can be made, or maybe a mesh belt is not the right belt for this application • Are you experiencing problems? • Edges breaking • Rods bending • Product falling through • Can’t clean the belt BS&k Company and Jerry Brothers Industries. Page # 37

  38. Questions To Ask • Mesh Belts • Pros • Many meshes available • Many materials • Many attachments available • Sprocket Drive available • Tight and/or large terminal drives • Long lasting when properly installed * • Easy to splice BS&k Company and Jerry Brothers Industries. Page # 38

  39. Questions To Ask • Mesh Belts • Cons • Without Sprockets, tracking can be difficult • When installed properly, leave alone. Many pseudo mechanics think they can make the belt run better by tightening the tension • When it mis-tracks it often damages the mesh • Easy to over-tension and damage the mesh • Openings can clog up BS&k Company and Jerry Brothers Industries.
