This report examines the progress of competition policy and law in Brunei Darussalam within the ASEAN framework. With a population of approximately 414,400 and a GDP of BND 11.8 billion mainly driven by the oil and gas sector, Brunei's economic landscape is characterized by a significant number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Currently, Brunei lacks a comprehensive national competition law and an overarching regulatory body, though a national competition law is under consideration. This document outlines the challenges of developing a competition culture, regulatory burdens, and the critical need for capacity building and regional cooperation.
