Data Regarding Food Compost Facilities • By my count, there are 73 composting facilities capable of processing food waste in 26 states • Other measures that include university and on farm composting operations that process food range between 200 and 300 (many of these are unlikely to play a significant role in municipal programs) • Estimates of total yard waste composting facilities in states range between 3,000-4,000

  16. Effect of Yard Waste Ban • Following yard waste bans in approximately half of the states in the U.S. between the mid 80s and the early 90s, the number of composting sites in the states increased rapidly- today there are somewhere between 3,000 and 4,000 yard waste composting operations
