State Data Center Update • Key Strategies from Excipio Business Plan (12/10/2010) • Consolidating data center resources across the state and optimizing costs; • Executing facility construction and transition projects on schedule and on budget; • Marketing excess data center capacity; • Continuing server virtualization and Cloud Computing development; • Evaluating sourcing alternatives to achieve other strategies; • Conduct TCO study to understand all IT costs. • Key Strategies from Excipio Business Plan (12/10/2010) • Consolidating data center resources across the state and optimizing costs; • Executing facility construction and transition projects on schedule and on budget; • Marketing excess data center capacity; • Continuing server virtualization and Cloud Computing development; • Evaluating sourcing alternatives to achieve other strategies; • Conduct TCO study to understand all IT costs.
State Data Center Update • Near Term Objectives • Make SDC “Operational” in prep for data center consolidations • Consolidate data centers, starting with OB2 • Standardize and consolidate virtual servers onto Private Cloud service in SDC
State Data Center Update • Making the data center“operational”, i.e. ready fordata center consolidations • On schedule, coordinatingmultitude of projects • Installing core network equipment • Certifying core network for integrity, security and performance (once installed) • Creating and hiring key positions • Testing and validating facility systems, e.g. security, power, environmental • Detailed floor space planning (DCIM)
State Data Center Update • Consolidating Data Centers • Task-level planning to migrate OB2 data center • First steering committee meeting, reviewed charter • Move Strategy – CTS will coordinate with each agency • A la Carte 1: Agencies move equipment, CTS will coordinate • Dedicated Hosting: CTS will move, collaborating with agencies • CTS provides moving vendors for physical moves out of OB2 • Virtual Moves to begin late Spring 2012 • Physical Moves: OCT 2012 – OCT 2013
State Data Center Update • Standardizing and Consolidating Virtual Servers (Private Cloud) • Shared environment for consolidating agencies’ virtual servers in the State Data Center • CTS is sourcing service from private sector cloud supplier • Rely on private sector innovation and experience to quickly deploy service that is scalable, secure and efficient • Hired expert consultant in cloud technology and sourcing best practices to develop RFP (TPI) • 13 agencies participating in requirements workshops • Collecting minimum capacity data for RFP • Ready for TSB approval mid-November 2011
