  1. Acupuncture - How It Differs From Western Medicine In Managing Seasonal Allergies Are you suffering from colds, rashes and other nasty allergies? Before you run to the pharmacy to buy some antihistamines, perhaps you should try out an ancient therapeutic art that originated in China centuries ago – acupuncture. According to a new German study, allergic rhinitis, rashes, watery eyes and other seasonal allergies may find an unlikely foe in such procedure. Experts noted that 71% of the participants in the study observed major improvements in their allergies after undergoing medical acupuncture. Quick Recovery In the study conducted by researchers at Charite – University Medical Centre in Berlin, and published in the Annals of Internal Medicine journal, 422 people having colds and pollen-related allergies were divided into 3 groups. One group received 12 genuine Cannington acupuncture treatments while taking antihistamines at the same time.

  2. The second group got sham acupuncture methods (which means that the needles were only placed at random points) and antihistamines. The third group was only given antihistamines, and received no acupuncture therapies. • After eight weeks and twelve treatment sessions, the group with the genuine Chinese acupuncture treatments and antihistamines noted greater improvements in their allergy symptoms (and used less medications). This was in comparison with the second group that had the fake treatments, and the third group that was given antihistamines only. Clearly, the study showed that participants who got acupuncture recovered quickly. • Traditional Medicine's View of Allergy Treatment • There seems to be a very wide gap between how traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture and Western medicine view allergy treatment. For example, in the West, the allergy therapies often lean on curbing or restraining the allergic response, for which antihistamines like Benadryl, Chlor-trimetron and others are utilised. Drugs like Albuterol are also used to treat allergic rhinitis and asthma, along with decongestants and cortico-steroids. • From a Western medical standpoint, there's more thrust towards avoiding the allergen as much as possible (although this may be quite impossible). If full avoidance is not effective, then desensitisation is the next step, wherein small allergen amounts are gradually injected to the patient, to create some sort of immunity.

  3. The problem with the Western allergy treatment approach is that it causes major side effects such as drowsiness, immune-system suppression and excessive reliance on medications. In traditional medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion therapy look for more deeply-rooted signs in the individual with allergies. Traditional medicine veterans say that those who suffer chronic and seasonal allergies often show symptoms of kidney, spleen and lung problems. • The objective of traditional or classical Chinese acupuncture is to craft a plan or strategy to address the patient’s symptoms and provide immediate relief. Additionally, fixing the underlying immune system imbalance issues, which are the root cause of their allergies are taken into consideration. Acupuncture treatments can also be used in conjunction with the use of herbs and diet modification. • While acupuncture can be quite invasive and time-consuming (because you’ll need to find a registered acupuncturist), the best part - it has a proven beneficial effect on the immune system. While antihistamines only provide temporary relief (and they could make you drowsy too), Cannington acupuncture offers more promising long-term benefits.
