  1. Turquoise Gemstone Jewelry Buying Tips When most think of jewelry, they consider such things as gold, silver, diamonds, or pearls. These are the common items that someone gives to another knowing that it will bring an instant smile to that person’s face, and tears to their eyes as they are awestruck at the beauty of the gift. However, these are not the only kinds of precious items that can be used in jewelry. There is another option out there that adds just as much beauty and will look just as stunning on that special someone, and that is turquoise. The Beauty of Turquoise Turquoise is found almost everywhere across the globe, but this gemstone is unique in its appearance depending upon where it was found. It is the temperature and pressure that creates the gemstone, and obviously this is different depending upon the location of where you found it. The problem is that looking for turquoise can present itself to be a challenge. There are many out there who are selling imitation or counterfeit turquoise, looking to rip you off with a substandard gemstone. So how do you know whether turquoise is for real? Here are some things to consider. How Turquoise is Treated First, consider that when turquoise is mined it comes out as a soft material. It is only in the jewelry that it takes on its hardened form. The reason that it is hard is because it is specially treated to ensure that it does not get damaged or reshape. There are four ways that it can be treated: Stabilization - in this process, the stones are dipped in a stabilizing compound. This ensures that colors remain stable and that it will not change because of contact with your skin nor will it absorb oils.

  2. Dye - during this process, the gem has additional colors added to it before it is stabilized. This helps to enhance the colors of the gem so that it is more uniform. Reconstitute - for jewelers, this is when they will gather a large number of stones and powder them before connecting the stones together. This makes one large stone. Be aware that reconstituted gems may have fake stones added. Augmentation - you will need to be aware of the various augmentations for turquoise. Read about the treatments before going to make a purchase so you will understand exactly what each augmentation type is. Help with Identification To assist you in being able to identify the different types of turquoise, here are a few things for you to know about the different shades. Sleeping Beauty - this is a solid gemstone that has been taken from the Sleeping Beauty mines located in Arizona. They will have colors ranging from royal blue to a light blue. Chalk - this is a white gemstone that is found in China. It is porous. Persian - this is found in a ran and the blue color is quite unique to this gemstone. Bisbee - also found in Arizona, this provides various shades of blue. Turquoise engagement ring available online at Capucinne.com.
