  1. Blog2: Cardiaclife.net DIFFERENT TYPES OF DEFIBRILLATORS AND THEIR USES Defibrillators are some of the most important, life-saving medical equipment we have available right now. Defibrillators are actually electronically operated medical devices that are designed to administer an electronic shock to the human heart in cases of dysrhythmias or ventricular fibrillation-like conditions. What this equipment essentially does is that by giving a high joule shock, it depolarises the critical mass of heart muscles and kicks in the natural pace and rhythm of the body to take charge. This piece of equipment has a potential to save countless lives. There are several kinds of defibrillators available today. Firstly there are the manually operated external defibrillators that are to be operated by the trained medical professionals only. These devices have a cardiograph used to access the patient's condition and then according to its readings, the amount of electronic shock is administered. These are generally used by paramedics in ambulances or at the hospitals. The second kind is the manually operated internal defibrillators that are generally used in operation theatres only where the patient's chest is already opened or can be opened quickly enough to administer a shock to the heart directly. The third kind is the automated emergency defibrillators also referred to as the AEDs. These are of great importance as these can be used by a layman in emergency situations where delayed medical help can prove fatal for the patient. Installation of the AEDs like the Zoll AED plus or Powerheart AED G3, in public places like railway stations, airports and offices can actually provide medical assistance much quicker than before. These devices are automatic in nature, can assess the heart's condition by themselves and can then be easily used to give a shock by any common person with small to no knowledge of the working of this device. Lastly there are the automated implantable cardioverter defibrillators which can be planted inside the patient's body like a pacemaker and can administer electrical shocks internally whenever encountering an anomaly in the heart's behaviour in accordance with its programming. These devices can be bought from a number of online vendors that are certified and reputed.
