In this article, we provide a quick overview of the easing of restrictions as well as guidance for employers on returning to the workplace. The majority of legal restrictions have been removed, and people will be expected to protect themselves and others through informed decisions. Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated, "The Government expects and recommends that face coverings be worn in crowded and enclosed spaces, such as public transportation when mixing with people you don't regularly encounter. Everyone is advised to meet people outside where possible. The one-meter-plus rule will be removed (except in hospitals or before passport control when entering the country).
Working from Home While the government no longer encourages people to work from home, the transition to the workplace should be gradual, and firms should follow the published guidelines. Positive cases and contacts of positive cases identified by NHS Test and Trace will still be required to self-isolate in order to assist break transmission chains. It is advised that nightclubs and other large event organisersask for proof that people have had their vaccinations. From August 16, under-18s and double-vaccinated adults will be exempted from isolation as contacts of positive cases. School bubbles will end on July 19. The Government will review the current guidance in September. For Businesses All firms should adhere to the principles outlined in the working safely guidance. Whilst government is no longer advising people to work from home if possible, the government would expect and recommend a gradual return over the summer.
Employers still have a legal duty to manage risks to individuals affected by their business. To do this, conduct a health and safety risk assessment, including the risk of COVID-19, and take reasonable steps to mitigate the risks identified. Need More Advice?
