  1. Bay City State Recreation Area SPECIAL EVENTS Winter Festival February 16 & 17, 2013 It’s Michigan’s Winter Free Fishing Weekend & State Park Project Go! Get Outdoors Day! Activities focus on getting out and exploring Michigan’s Winter Wonderland. Family Ice Fishing Derby, Snow Angel Contest, Snow Snake Tournament, Winter Wildlife Workshops, Live Animal Programs, Backyard Bird Feeding Workshops, Snowshoeing, Owl Calling Hike and more! Bunny Hop Egg Hunt Saturday, March 30, 2013 Begins at 11:00 am. Age Groups are 3 and Under; 4 to 7 years; and 8 to 11 years. The Easter Bunny will be here to visit so bring your camera. Prizes will be awarded to the children with the prize winning eggs. Wetland Wake-Up Day Saturday, April 20, 2013 Get ready for spring! Learn about migratory birds, Adopt-a-shoreline program, hibernating herps and how to improve wildlife habitat in your own backyard. Fun family-focused activities which include a Migratory Bird Kite Fly-up, butterfly houses & feeders, turtle napping stones, toad houses, bird watching projects and more! Free Fishing Festival Saturday, June 8, 2013 Family fishing derby, youth fishing clinic, kid’s casting contest, special “how to” programs, Michigan fisheries exhibits and presentations. water safety presentations and fishing crafts too! Designed to get your family hooked on fishing! Beach Wellness Volleyball Tournament & Run By the Bay Saturday, June 22, 2013 Volleyball teams compete on the shores of The Saginaw Bay, concerts, and all day fun in the sun! 5k and 10k walk and/or run along the shores of The Saginaw Bay and a kids fun run. All proceeds generated benefit the Bay City State Recreation Area. Saginaw Bay Waterfowl Festival August 3 & 4, 2013 Our most popular special event weekend features: Michigan’s State Championship Duck & Goose calling tournament, MDHA 2011 Michigan Waterfowl Stamp Competition, Wildlife Arts & Craft Show, Duck Hunter & Outdoor Outfitter’s Expo, Waterfowl Calling Clinic, Waterfowl Carving Contest, Parent-Youth canoe race, live animal programs, dog retrieving fun trial, DNR Information booths, hunting video simulator and a whole lot more! Trunk or Treat Saturdays, Sept. 28, Oct. 5, & Oct. 12 Starts at 5:30 pm. Set up your vehicle in the day use area of the park to hand out candy to kids who will be trick-or-treating both in the campground and the day use parking lot. Mother Nature’s Halloween Trail Saturday, October 19, 2013 Animal actors will share information about Michigan’s most misunderstood wildlife, their shrinking wetland habitat and how they benefit man, as you take a guided hike along a pumpkin lit trail.
