  3. What we do DEPA VISION • To develop and communicate high quality and timely environmental assessment advice and policies relating to Defence capability, infrastructure and training activities. DEPA OBJECTIVES • To provide a policy framework for the environmental assessment of Defence activities. • Actively manages the building of relationships with key stakeholders. • To meet environmental legislative and policy requirements. • To act as Defence’s gateway and technical authority for external environmental approvals such as referrals under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. • To establish, implement and learn from an effective environmental compliance and auditing framework. • To develop project and strategic level environmental impact assessment processes. • To contribute to the integrity and sustainability of the Defence estate by providing high level technical advice on environmental management.
