Basic principles of the communication of the fight against cigarette smuggling • Most importantly: the creation of an appropriate relationship and a system of trust with representatives of the press. • Not only detections are to be published or operationsannounced, but feedback on developments following the detection (circle of perpetrators, further course of seized cigarettes), and results of operations through press organizations.

  4. Essential formal and content requirements in publishing detections • Two options when photos or videos are made: • releasing edited own material (not always the best solution, these are not „professionally” recorded), • Providing opportunity for photo or video coverage in the framework of on-the-spot press conference (not always the best solution, the criminal investigation may not be hindered). • Preparing a publication: • The circumstances of the detection, • Quantity, value of seized cigarettes, value of tax evasion, • Naming the contravention committed by the perpetrator, • Information on the punishment or fine imposable in order to deter perpetration!

  5. When the organizational press service has an easy job • Getting detections of large or record setting quantities published and described. • Announcing the launch of major operations (Customs patrol boat on river Tisza).

When the organizational press service has a more difficult job – getting smaller detections published • More difficult to mobilize press, since the case involves less significant quantities • The interesting, tabloid-like details need to be pinpointed such as: • tricks in the mode of perpetration, • Detection by cigarette sniffer dogs.
