Galatians 5:18-26 (NKJV) 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

  14. “Are We Bearing The Fruit of The Flesh or Spirit?” - 5:19-26 Fruit of The Spirit • The Result of Union with Christ, His Character, His Teaching: • Love: Of God & man - Seeking the Welfare of Others - unselfishness! • Joy: Delight, Rejoicing in Things Right & Good - Not based on externals but rather the “delight of love satisfied”(Contrast with Momentary Pleasure of Sin) - Phili 4:4; 1 John 1:4 • Peace: Contentment due to a right relationship with God – Phili 4:7

  15. “Are We Bearing The Fruit of The Flesh or Spirit?” - 5:19-26 Fruit of The Spirit • The Result of Union with Christ, His Character, His Teaching: • Longsuffering: Forbearance, Patience, Restraint When Provoked, Enduring Trials - James 5:7-9 • Kindness, -“Sweet Reasonableness” - An approachable disposition – Not caustic – Eph. 2:7; Col. 3:12 • Goodness, - Uprightness of heart & life, doing good - Beneficence, Acting with Kindness - Eph. 5:9; 2 Thes 1:11

  16. “Are We Bearing The Fruit of The Flesh or Spirit?” - 5:19-26 Fruit of The Spirit • The Result of Union with Christ, His Character, His Teaching: • Faithfulness, - Complete trust in God producing fidelity - Luke 16:10-12 • Gentleness, - Suffers wrong without resentment – strong, firm, but gentle. – Eph. 4:2; Col. 3:12; Gal. 6:1 • Self-control. - Bringing all thoughts and actions into harmony with the divine standard – Acts 24:25; 1 Cor. 9:25-27; 2 Cor. 10:5

  17. “Are We Bearing The Fruit of The Flesh or Spirit?” - 5:19-26 Fruit of The Spirit • Against such there is no law • Fruit - these characteristics combine to describe the character & state of the one in Christ. • Such character traits fulfill rather than violate God’s law - thus answering the Judaizer’s claim that the gospel did not provide what was necessary to moral & godly living. • These Traits Destroy, Replace, & Prevent Works of the Flesh!

Rom 6:1-6; 2 Cor 5:15 • The Gospel delivers the sinner from the bondage of sin & empowers the believer to live a Holy life - Rom 6-8

  21. “Are We Bearing The Fruit of The Flesh or Spirit?” - 5:19-26 • Christ Came to Deliver Us from This Present Evil World • He Invites Us to Enter a New Life (Gal. 3:26-27): • Walk in the Spirit, Not the Flesh! • Continue to Grow in Christ • Do Not Return to a Life of Sin & Error Galatians 5:16 (NKJV) I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
