Additional visit days will be equivalent to an excused absence. Get the form filled out WHILE at the college/ university and turn in to the ATTENDANCE OFFICE upon your return to school.

  13. Available in the counseling office or website under “forms”

  14. Trade or Technical School • Visit http://www.trade-schools.net This will allow you to search by trade/area/interest • Now is the time to begin visiting the trade schools in which you are interested and talking to the admissions counselors about requirements

  15. 2-year Junior/Community College • Deadlines – generally Spring 2019 • Visit the college website for admission details • Plan a college visit • Typically will take TSI exam rather than SAT or ACT for admission

  16. 4-year College or University * Admissions deadlines are quickly approaching- many are December 2018 * If applying to a Texas Public School- www.applytexas.org * If applying to a U.S. Private School- www.commonapp.org • SAT or ACT scores likely required Check college websites or call admissions office for specific admission information and deadlines

  17. Application Requirements • Complete and submitted application • Required essays • High school transcript • SAT/ACT scores sent via College Board (if scores are required for admission) • AP scores sent via College Board (if taken AP exams and scored a 3, 4, or 5 for college credit) • FAFSA for financial aid If not required, additional /supplemental items: • Resume • Letters of Recommendation • Optional essays

  18. Requesting Official Transcripts • A transcript request form is needed to send out your transcript. It requires a parent signature if you are not 18 years old. • First transcript is free, any additional transcripts are $5.00 each. • All OFFICIAL transcripts must be sent directly from Churchill to an institution. We CANNOT hand you an official transcript. • Allow at least 5 working days for processing. • Transcripts are sent electronically to Texas public schools and other institutions in the TREx system. Out of state have to be mailed via USPS. • Transcripts CANNOT be mailed via overnight services. PLAN AHEAD SO THAT YOUR TRANSCRIPTS ARRIVE BY THE COLLEGE’S DEADLINE

  19. List each school you want to send your official transcript on the back of this page. If the college/ university is out of state, you must provide a mailing address. Available in the counseling office or on the website under “transcripts”

  20. Transcript Request – Summer VS. Fall Class Rank • You were able to pick up your most recent GPA/Class rank in July from the counseling office. • This class rank was based on the CLASS SIZE of juniors who finished the 2017-18 school year at WC. • Now it is a new school year, so the CLASS SIZE has CHANGED. This means that you will be re-ranked based on the number of seniors currently at WC for the 2018-19 school year. • LAST DAY TO REQUEST A TRANSCRIPT WITH SUMMER RANK – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH BY 4:30 PM

  21. Summer VS. Fall Class Rank • You could move up or down in the new ranking…so it may be a good idea to send your transcript BEFORE the rank changes. • When will you get your new rank? On the first progress report you receive - Friday, September 21st • What if you went up in rank from summer to fall? Then you can resend your transcript to reflect the change. • What if you went down in rank from summer to fall? If you already sent your transcript, then you do not have to resend unless requested by the college or university. • LAST DAY TO REQUEST A TRANSCRIPT WITH SUMMER RANK – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH BY 4:30 PM

  22. SAT/ACT Testing & Scores * Scores required for admission to 4-year colleges and universities * Check admission requirements to determine what scores you need * Scores needed vary by college/university but typically are linked to your class ranking (lower in class = higher test scores required) Scores must be sent directly to college/university by YOU. SAT – www.collegeboard.org ACT – www.act.org

  23. SAT/ACT Testing Dates Register Online Fee waiver available if on free/reduced lunch

  24. AP Test Scores AP Exams will be administered from May 6th – May 17th A score of 1 – 5 is given on an AP exam. A score of 3 or higher will be awarded college credit at a TX public school! To check AP scores or to send scores to a college/university: https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/credit andplacement

  25. Application Essays Check to see what essay prompts are required for the college/university you are applying to We encourage you to also submit optional essays for competitive purposes Ask your English teacher or other adult you trust to proofread and give suggestions

  27. Common Application Essays

  28. Letter of Recommendation -- Not all college/universities require letters of recommendation. Check the admission requirements for schools you are applying to. Apply Texas – does not require recommendation letters but you may be able to upload in your personal admissions portal for certain universities (like Texas A&M, UT, etc.) Common Application – typically requires teacher recommendations and counselor recommendation, you provide their contact information as part of application process

  29. Requesting Recommendation -- Complete a “Senior Information Sheet” to provide the counselor or the teacher This provides valuable additional information that we may not know about you (especially what activities you are involved in outside of WC) Attach your resume to the senior information sheet if you have one. Be sure to indicate what/who the letter of recommendation is for and how it is to be submitted. **Allow at least 2 weeks for recommendation letters to be written**

  31. Resume Tips • Make it easy to read • Use a chronological format (12th-9th) • List school-related and non school-related activities • Athletics, extra-curricular activities • Community service, volunteer work • Leadership positions, offices held • Work experience, internships, summer programs • Awards, honors, recognition • You can find examples and templates online!

  32. Application Reminders -- Be authentic -- Tell your story in your essays -- Check your spelling and grammar – proofread! -- Pay attention to deadlines -- Remember that you are competing for admission Being top 10% means you can be automatically admitted to Texas public college/university but not necessarily to your top major choice.

  33. Application Terms To Know Regular Admissions The regular application deadline specified by colleges (typically December through February) Rolling Admissions No deadline date, applications are processed as received Early Action Non-binding deadline that is prior to regular admission deadline (usually October or November) Early Decision Binding agreement with an early deadline that you are agreeing to attend this school if admitted, should only be considered if its your top choice!

  34. College Admission #1 Automatic: • Based on class rank and SAT/ACT test scores • You still need to apply and submit before the deadline • Automatic admission to college does not mean you will automatically get first choice of major • UT Austin – top 6% • All other Texas public schools- top 10%

  35. College Admission #2 Under Committee Review: • Committee will review your transcript, rank, grades, SAT/ACT scores, etc. • Check the admissions website to see if there is information on what the committee takes into consideration • Submit extras to show interest – expanded resume, optional essays, letter of recommendation that is not just academic in nature (internship, boss, family friend) • Show interest by communicating with admissions counselors - email, make phone calls, etc.
