About Brossaï • Born Gyula Halász • In Brossó; used to be a part of Hungary, now Romania • Moved to Paris when he was 25 • His love of Paris and frequent nighttime wanderings of the city inspired his photography • His works led him to fame, with shows in the George Eastman House (Rochester, NY), the Art Institute (Chicago), and NYC’s Museum of Modern Art • In addition to photography, he wrote 17 books and his film won “Most Original Film” at the Cannes Film Festival • Died in southern France on 8 July 1984
