Join us to explore how the Utility Network Analyst in ESRI ArcMap can optimize your surveying projects using the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD). This session will cover techniques for analyzing water flow, leveraging network topology, and working with hydrography datasets. Professionals will learn to show flow direction, trace upstream and downstream paths, and determine connected flowlines. Get hands-on experience with the tools and features available in ArcMap, and enhance your surveying capabilities with these essential GIS applications.

Indiana GIS Local Resolution NHD Applications for Surveyors ISPLS State Conference January 18, 2013 Using the Utility Network Analyst with the National Hydrography Dataset
Using Utility Network Analyst with NHD • NHD geodatabase network topology allows for analyzing waterflow • Utility Network Analyst is Tool in ESRI ArcMap • ArcView (Basic) license, no extension required • Requires NHD geodatabase hydrography dataset, not just feature classes/vector graphics • Hydro_Net_Junctions • NHDFlowline
Analyzing Water Flow with NHD Tools in the Utility Network Analyst Toolbar • Show Flow Direction • Determine common ancestors • Find connected flowlines • Trace downstream or upstream • Find path upstream or downstream • Find upstream accumulation
Using Utility Network Analyst with NHD • Add data from the NHD geodatabase to the Map • Hydrography dataset HYDRO_NET • HYDRO_NET_Junctions • NHDFlowline • Add Other data as needed (not required)
Using Utility Network Analyst with NHD • Turn on the Utility Network Analyst Toolbar in ArcMap • Set Network to HYDRO_NET
Using Utility Network Analyst with NHD High Resolution • Show Flow Direction • From Flow menu, select Display Arrows Local Resolution
Using Utility Network Analyst with NHD • Trace downstream • Add edge flag • Choose task • Solve
Using Utility Network Analyst with NHD • Find upstream accumulation • Add junction flag • Choose task • Solve
Using Utility Network Analyst with NHD • Determine common ancestors • Add edge flags at two or more locations • Choose task • Solve
Using Utility Network Analyst with NHD • Find connected flowlines • Add edge flag • Choose task • Solve
