  2. What is a Serial Killer? • A serial killer is someone who: -has killed more than three people -has a specific murder pattern -murders are spread out over time

  3. Mendenhal • Born April 14th 1951 in Crawford County Illinois • Grew up in a stable family and had no major problem as a child • Married and had two daughters • Neighbors saw him as quite and strange • Held a job a trucker for 18 years --Once ran for mayor and only got 49 votes

  4. July 12th 2007 • Mendenhal was found and arrested on the spot at a truck stop in Nashville -Admitted to the murder and rape of Sara Nicole and confessed to the murder and rape of five others

  5. Victims • Mendenhal targeted young female prostitutes • Got them into his truck at truck stops • Raped/had sex with them and them killed them • Almost all of the bodies were found shot and dumped necked, laying on backs with their legs straight out • Two of the victims were run over

  6. Motive • A serial killer who is a rapist does not kill because of sex • Kills to get a sense of power and dominance over the helpless victim • Can only achieve his satisfaction once he has raped and murdered them to prove his dominance

  7. Evidence • Inside Mendenhal’s truck were: • Sex toys • Knives • .22 caliber rifle • Hand cuffs • Plastic bag filled with bloody clothes • DNA of at least five of the victims

  8. Trial • Mendenhal has only officially been charged with the murder of Sara Nicole Hurbert and is serving life improsonment • He has confessed to five others (three of which are in court) • Is believed to be responsible for five more including on from 92 -six of his murders accured in 2007
