  7. Rationale of the study 7

  8. User Segmentation We have re-grouped the user groups analyzed in D3.1 following more traditional criteria. The segmentation result is: • Residential/SOHO (this include private citizens, professionals working from home) • Public Sector (this includes schools, hospitals, local municipalities) • SME’s (this includes small companies active in the field of farming, tourism and commerce) The reasons: • Market data are structured in this way • This render the groups homogenous in terms of willingness to pay, affinity to services, frequency of use, etc, etc 8

  9. Opportunity index: methodology • The main objectives was to map and quantify the opportunities across Europe for the RW service and applications. The result is a Country rankings based on the following indicators: • Broadband penetration rates • GDP per capita and per household • Internet and number of PCs in schools in rural areas • Internet penetration rates for SME’s with focus on the farming and tourism sectors • Development level of e-government 9

  11. Main issues in D8.1 • The main issues in WP8 are: • Work package description could benefit from re-wording. • Objectives need clarification(limited to satellite broadband, do not include educational applications). • Partners contributionsneed better definition. • The scope of the analysis beyond Europeis questionable 11
