National Seminar on Developing A Program for the Implementationof the2008 SNA and Supporting Statistics in Turkey 10 September 2013 / Ankara - Turkey Data Sources • Data on the number of livestock is collected annually by the Provincial and District Directorates of MoFAL through the SDN system • The data on the number of animals milked are collected by the Province Directorates ofMoFAL at district level as of yearend. These data are based on official records and regional agricultural data obtained by the Province and District Directorates of MoFAL

National Seminar on Developing A Program for the Implementationof the2008 SNA and Supporting Statistics in Turkey 10 September 2013 / Ankara - Turkey Data Sources • Monthly animal production statistics (Meat, milk and poultry production) are collected from establishments that use animal products as input under the subgroup of NACE Rev.2, 10.11 and 15.11; 01.47; 10.12; 10.51 in industry by TURKSTAT Regional Offices

National Seminar on Developing A Program for the Implementationof the2008 SNA and Supporting Statistics in Turkey 10 September 2013 / Ankara - Turkey Data Collection Methodology • MoFAL is responsible for the identification and registration of bovine, ovine and caprine animals, thus for the collection of data on the livestock population of the country. • Data on the number of livestock is collected annually by the Provincial and District Directorates of MoFAL through the SDN system. • Data on the number of livestock is based on administrative records in the animal identification and registration databases, namely, TURKVET for bovine animals and the Sheep and Goat Registration System for ovine and caprine animals.

National Seminar on Developing A Program for the Implementationof the2008 SNA and Supporting Statistics in Turkey 10 September 2013 / Ankara - Turkey Data Collection Methodology • Livestock data is also partly available in some other administrative registers, including those for agricultural subsidies and vaccinations. • Official veterinarians update administrative data and database records, based on their observations during their visits to animal holdings. • Furthermore, the local offices of MoFAL also keep information acquired through the declarations of animal owners.

These data are based on official records and regional agricultural data obtained by the Province and District Directorates of MoFAL.

National Seminar on Developing A Program for the Implementationof the2008 SNA and Supporting Statistics in Turkey 10 September 2013 / Ankara - Turkey Data Dissemination • Data are disseminated under the heading of The Summary of Agricultural Statistics via Statistical Yearbook, Press Releases and internet (www.turkstat.gov.tr). • Data on Red meat Production, Poultry and hen egg production and Milk and milk productshave been published through monthly News Releases starting from January 2010. Starting from January 2012, data on red meat production has been published quarterly.

National Seminar on Developing A Program for the Implementationof the2008 SNA and Supporting Statistics in Turkey 10 September 2013 / Ankara - Turkey Future Activities • Animal production surveys will be conducted on a regular basis, twice a year, as from 2015. • Supply balance sheets of animal production are planned to be produced in 2014.  • Quality reports for animal production statistics will be completed • To provide sustainability of an up-to-date and a strong adress frame including integrated establishments and monthly data collection, • Improvement of institutional cooperations, use of information systems and official records, • Studies on GIP calculations
