  4. Sources of OLAP data • The OLAP level of data originates from the organizationally structured level of data in the data warehouse. This detailed, historical data is the heart of the data warehouse and forms a perfect foundation for the OLAP level of data.

OLAP META data • descriptive information about what is in the OLAP environment: • content, • structure • definition, etc.; • the source of the data • the business and technical name of the data; • a description of the summarization, subset, superset … • the data’s journey into the OLAP environment; • metrics that describe the data • scheduling information, describing data population; • modeling information, describing how the data in the OLAP environment relates to the corporate data model
