  5. Graduate Program GrowthEnrollment • Twenty one faculty members; 80-90 students. • ~ $ 5 million/year in external research funds.

  6. Graduate Program Graduation Rates Projected. • Graduated 11 PhD’s last year; more than any other ME program in the Florida SUS!(On track to do the same next year) • Program is only 20 years old

S.) • Admission Requirements • GPA > 3.0/4.0 • GRE score above a prescribed minimum • Three Letters of Recommendation • Statement of Goals • Financial support almost always provided

  13. Degree Options – Ph. D. • Goal: Conduct Independent, Original research • Complete dissertation & publicly defend your work • 2 –4 Yrs beyond M.S. • Admission Requirements • M. S. in M. E. or a related field • Other requirements similar to M. S. • Financial support almost always provided

  14. Ph. D. Program Details • Total credit hours (45=21+24 dissertation) • Math Requirement: • 6 credits ofGeneral Engineering and Advanced Mathematics . (These courses will be chosen from the list on the Web) • Ph. D. Breadth Requirements: • Ph.D candidates must complete 6 credits of ME courses outside their major and allied field. • (Allied Field – E.g. Dynamics is an Allied field for Controls and vice versa; Materials is an allied field for Mechanics and so on.) • Preliminary Exam: • Normally only administered during the Spring semester. • Consult with your advisor before signing up. • Sign up early

BS/Ph.D. Program Details • Admission Requirements (Direct) : • Undergraduate Technical GPA 3.2 or higher • GRE (V + A) 1300 or better • Recommendation by an ME faculty who will be your advisor • Can also switch from MS to PhD track • See George Green or me for details (will be posted on the web soon) • Total credit hours (60=36+24 dissertation) • Math Requirement: • Same as regular PhD • Ph. D. Breadth Requirements: • Same as regular PhD • Technical Electives: • 12 credit hours (at least 2 courses- 6 credits- from the department)

How to Apply ? • Discuss your plans with faculty • Advisor and other faculty • Areas of interest • Look at Financial Aid options • Complete Application through FAMU or FSU • Prepare for and take GRE’s (scores to be sent to the University) • Write Statement of Goals/Purpose. • Keep checking on admission status • Plan ahead
