History • 1946- started up as Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation • 1958- Company name changed to Sony Corporation • 1960- Sony Corporation of America established in the United States • 1961- Sony becomes the first Japanese company to offer shares in the United States in the form of American Depository Receipts on the over the counter market of the New York Stock Exchange • 1973- Sony receives the first Emmy ever awarded to a Japanese company for developing the Trinitron color TV system

History (continued) • 1988- acquired CBS Records Inc. was renamed Sony Music Entertainment Inc. • 1989- acquired Columbia Pictures Entertainment Inc. was renamed Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. • 1993- Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. established • 1995- Sony Communication Network Corporation established • 2005-acquired Metro-Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) • 2009- Sony unveils new message “make.believe” • 2010- Sony opens Sony’s 3D Technology Center located at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California
