Northview Middle School is thrilled to foster strong relationships with students and their families. Our sixth-grade structure consists of teams – Dartmouth and Princeton, each with about 150 students and five core teachers. Our teachers collaborate weekly to enhance interdisciplinary learning. A typical day features a block schedule with Falcon Days every Monday and alternating Gold and Black Days. Students will engage in required subjects including Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies, along with exploratory classes. We emphasize hands-on learning and diverse teaching strategies to prepare students for their academic journey.

A Typical Day • Block Schedule • Falcon Days (every Monday) • 90 minutes for each required class on alternating days • Gold Days – Blocks 1, 3, and 5, 7, and 8 • Black Days – Blocks 2, 4, and 6, 7 and 8 • Exploratory (elective) classes meet every day for 45 minutes during periods 7 & 8

Language Arts • 2 Levels: Language Arts 6 and Language Arts X (Honors) • Curriculum pacing guides for both courses aligned with Indiana Academic Standards focused on: • A variety of literature—short stories, poems, essays • Writing skills and strategies for a variety of genres • Grammar and usage • Speaking and listening skills
Reading • One level; one semester • Focus on novel studies • Vocabulary development • Reading comprehension • Speaking and listening skills
Math • 3 Levels: Math 6, Math X (Honors), and Pre-Algebra • Curriculum is based on district pacing guides • Wide variety of instructional activities: • Daily Math Review (spiral review) • Problem solving • Hands-on/manipulatives • Promethean Boards in all math classrooms Technology
Social Studies • 2 Levels: Social Studies 6 and Social Studies X (Honors) • Curriculum focused on: • Geography • Ancient European history • Middle Ages • Central & South America • Modern European and Latin American culture
Science • 2 Levels: Science 6 and Science X (Honors) • Curriculum: Experimental Design, Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science • Wide variety of instructional strategies & projects: • Hands-on labs called Lab-Aids (Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science) • Inquiry science is a priority
Physical Education/Health • Team sports • Fitness testing • Softball, soccer, volleyball, basketball, etc. • Target heart rate • Recreational exercise for healthy living • Personal wellness goal setting • Health promotion/disease prevention • Decision making

Course Request Deadline • Students receive course request sheets from their 5th grade teachers this week • Completed sheets are due to their 5th grade teachers by Friday, March 14th
