  2. Introduction • Have you ever thought about who invented ice cream or the light bulb? Inventors are people who think of an idea and then develop them. We are going to learn about specific inventors. • You will be researching through the use of Web sites and books. Your question is, “Why do people make new products or invent new ways to meet their individual wants and needs?” 

  3. Overall Task • You will research in a group a specific inventor, and create a trading card that will be laminated so the class can all have a set of each group's card.  Your group will also present their information to the class.

  4. Resources You will need the following items to complete this project: • Projector • Smart Board • Internet • Web Graphic • Computer Template for Trading Card • Questionnaire • Computer

  5. Process • First you will be assigned a group. • Assign a role to each person in group. • Click on the name of the role to find out what your job is. Navigator, Reader, and Writer • Next, you and your group will work together to complete Task 1. Click here for more information on Task 1. • In Task 1 you found an invention and inventor. Now, in your group work on Task 2.

  6. Process cont. • The final task your group will be completed is the trading card.

  7. Navigator • The navigator is the person who will sit at the computer and direct the students where to go on the web. Back to Process Page

  8. Reader • The reader’s job is to read aloud to the group so everyone can get the information needed. Back to Process Page

  9. Writer • The writer’s job is to write all the information down on the papers for the group. Back to Process Page

  10. Task 1 • Click and Print the graphic organizer. • Graphic organizer • Once your graphic organizer is printed you will go to the following website. • History Timeline

  11. Task 1 cont. • Once on the website, choose one of the following inventions and fill in the graphic organizer: • The Toilet • Pencil • Christmas Lights • Hot Dogs • The Light Bulb • Post It Notes Back to Process Page

Task 2 • In this task you will be researching more information about your inventor. • Click and print the Questionnaire • Questionnaire • Use the following websites to find more information on your inventors: • Zoomschool • Click on the letter that goes with the first letter of your invention. • Wikipedia • In the search box type in your inventor or invention name. • About.com • Click on the letter of the last name of your inventor.

  13. Task 2 cont. • As you are finding information on these sites be sure to fill in the questionnaire. • This information will be needed for your trading card. • If you are in need of more information, ask the teacher so you can make you way into the library for more help. Back to Process Page

Final Task • Click and Print the trading Card form. • Trading Card • Ask the teacher for a copy of your inventor’s picture. • Fill in all the information needed on the trading card. • Be sure to put your names on the back of the card. • You will use your information to present your inventor to the class. You will also give your card to each person. Back to Process Page

  16. Conclusion • Congratulation you are now an expert on your inventor. You will have the opportunity now to share your inventor with the class. You will also get to hear about all of the inventors and receive a trading card.

  20. Teacher Notes • This was the first lesson in my inventors unit. Next we look at the process inventors and inventions go through (Design Process) and finally we invent our own invention.
