  1. What is Christian Math? Christian math is one of two things: • A preference for instructivist curriculum • Similar to the Math Wars, but with a Christian bent. • Including Christian morality in mathematics instruction • Similar to the Evolution controversy

  2. Instructivist curriculum • Direct instruction = Christian • Inquiry = un-Christian • Similar to the Math Wars

  3. Integration of Christian Values • Belief that all subjects “glorify God,” including mathematics • Math is the “language of Creation” • Somewhat similar to the evolution controversy

  4. Does this issue come up? • Instruction vs. inquiry has been an issue in some districts • Overlaying of religious values more common in home-schoolers

  5. How should we handle this? • Instruction vs. inquiry • Similar to a non-religious debate • Involve and educate the community • Including religious values • Open dialogue with the community about the role of schools, and the nature of mathematics in a government-funded school.
