  1. HEALTH EDUCATION PROJECT PROJETO EDUCAÇÃO PARA A SAÚDE (PES) • Aims of the Project • Helping children, teenagers and young people to make informed choices; • Promoting eating and physical activity habits that will contribute to a good health condition; • Contributing to a better knowledge of the facts and components which integrate sexuality, particularly, unwanted pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, abuse and sexual violence; • Helping children and teenagers to resist the pressures that may lead to psychoactive substances consumption ; • Fighting and preventing cases of school violence and bullying; • Promotingsafety and preventing accidents; • Envisaging environment and health as life-important factors.

  2. Partnerships: • Public Health Services; • Municipality; • Local associations • Parents Association; • Solidarity Centres • Ex-students who took degrees in health related areas Assessment • The project evaluation takes into account different ways and means of information: • Questionnaires; • Samples of students’ work ; • Level of involvement of students, teachers, educational assistants and parents; • Reports.

  3. Sexual Education - PRESSE project (regional sexual education programme). • Teachers and school assistants are trained by two nurses, a psychologist and the programme coordinator.

  4. Target group: elementary to secondary education students. It promotes intersubject intervention. Activities include playing games, discussing books and films, etc. Celebration of thematic days: The World Against AIDS Day .

  5. Healthy Diet and Physical Activity - PASSE project – Target group: pre-school to secondary education students . • Training of teachers, parents school assistants. • Celebration of thematic days: World Food Day, Diabetes Day… and alert campaigns. Healthy Diet Day

Prevention of toxic substances consumption – project PELT (Schools Free of Tobacco Programme: Basic Education) and Learning to Drink project (Basic and Secondary Education). • Training of teachers, parents and school assistants. • Celebration of thematic days: “Non-Smoker’s Day” and “World Day Without Tobacco”.

  9. Mental Health and Prevention of School Violence and Bullying Air – learning how to breath; Água (Water) – learning how to drink and Amor (Love) – learning how to hug. Destined to basic and secondary students. Project three As:

  10. Oral Health • Administration of fluor and brushing; Visits to the dentists, training and prevention – Elementary Education. • DentistCheques – Elementary and Basic Education. • Alerting Campaigns.

INFORMATION AND SUPPORT CABINET (GIA) Objetives: • Providing the school with a cabinet which warrants a safe, comfortable and confidential atmosphere, allowing teenagers to develop, both psychologically and socially. • Promoting self-esteem and the development of competences in the areas of health and sexual education; • Answering young people’s main doubts in the area of sexuality, diet, psychoactive substances comsumption, school violence/bullying, among others; • Contributing to the prevention sexually transmited diseases and pregnancy in adolescence; • Guiding the pursuit of conscient and responsible decisions; • Developing attitudes of tolerance, solidarity and mutual respect.
