  2. S Floor Plan Main Floor W E N Upper Floor • the house is facing East because the majority of the windows are on the side of the house

  3. Startling Recycling Facts • If Americans recycled 35% of their trash instead of 25%, it would be like taking 36 million cars off the road • Every year, each American throws away about 1,200 pounds of organic garbage that can be composted • It costs $30 per ton to recycle trash, $50 to send it to a landfill, and $65 to $75 to incinerate it

  4. Recycled Flooring • reclaimed wood flooring is the best choice • made from timbers reclaimed from old barns and industrial buildings • durable • other flooring includes… • recycled leather tile • contains a minimum of 65% post-industrial recycled leather Reclaimed wood flooring

  5. Recycled Flooring Alternatives Continued • recycled fiber rugs • biodegradable • durable, almost up to 50 years • recycled rubber tiles • made from cork-rubber blends and recycled rubber tires • cement flooring • can be manipulated to make great designs Recycled rubber tiling Recycled rug materials

  6. Recycled Products Used in Kitchens • a few recycled countertop choices include • recycled glass • recycled glass mixed in concrete, cement, or resin base used in countertops in the form of mosaics • recycled paper • recycled countertops can be made from recycled paper and a natural resin • reclaimed wood countertops • countertops can also be made from recycled wood Recycled paper countertop Denim colored

  7. Recycled Products Used in Bathrooms • recycled glass tiling can be used in the showers and as flooring • comes in many colors • paper towels made from fully recycled materials • recycled toilet paper

  8. Recycled Furniture • many of the products we throw away can be recycled into furniture, even without realizing it • for example, the chair in the bottom right corner is made out of compact disks and scrap metal • the basket below is weaved out of newspaper

  9. Recycle by Composting • inside bins to temporarily collect organic materials • empty bins outside into compost area or in compost bins • composted materials can be used in your own gardens or sold to landscapers and local farmers Compost bins

  10. Recycled Products in Insulation • Alternatives to harmful Fiberglass: • Recycled Denim insulation • a recycled and safe alternative to fiberglass insulation • uses less energy to produce than fiberglass • only needs a thickness of R-21 for good insulation, which is about 6 inches wide • incase denim is too expensive, paper cellulose can be used instead • 25 cents per sq. foot, making it one of the cheapest insulations that is still effective Recycled paper cellulose Recycled Denim

  11. Ways to Support On-going Recycling • Get involved in programs in your community • recycling dumpsters • store in garages or in a designated area for apartment complexes • smaller recycling bins located in rooms all around the house • empty regularly • add to compost pile often • tend by adding water and stirring with a shovel

  12. More Ways to Support On-going Recycling • grey water • recycled kitchen sink water and shower water • can be reused in your plants and showers • rain water collectors • reuse by filtering and using in showers • filter and store to water plants • continually use these systems
